An Appling man was sentenced to jail this morning for videotaping three others sexually assaulting a teen last fall.

Chief Superior Court Judge J. Carlisle Overstreet sentenced Clayton Edward Blanton, 22, to 23 months in jail after he pleaded guilty to unlawful surveillance. He gets credit for the 140 days he already spent in the Columbia County Detention Center after his September arrest.

Three others were charged in connection to the assault, which occurred at a home on Shaw Street in Martinez.

Jason Scott Turner, 22, of Evans; Robert Lincoln Levy, 20, of Augusta; and Tyler William Davitte, 23, of Martinez, were charged with aggravated sexual battery. Blanton also was charged with aggravated sexual battery, but the charge was dropped in the negotiated plea agreement with the District Attorney’s Office.

Police received information Sept. 20 about underage drinking, drug activity and sex at a Shaw Street home in Martinez owned by Donald Everett Morrison.

The investigation found that in August an 18-year-old girl was drinking at the home. She and a friend reportedly passed out. The friend slept on a sofa and the 18-year-old went to a bedroom with one of the men. Two others came in and sexually assaulted her, police said.

A friend beckoned Blanton into the room to record video with his phone. He recorded the activities, but before leaving he woke up the victim’s friend to tell her what was happening in the bedroom.

Levy is being held in the Columbia County Detention Center without bond. Davitte and Turner were released after posting $25,000 bonds each in October. They are awaiting trial.

Blanton was arrested again in May, after he was charged with a county ordinance violation for providing alcohol to at least three minors near his home.

Why is Levy the only one in

Why is Levy the only one in this story being held without bond? I asked this question on a previous article about the one and only black person involved in this case being treated differently from the others and here it is.

I think it is kind of

I think it is kind of interesting that this story has now been squirreled away. Earlier today, it appeared in the headlines and now poof, gone.

Blanton got a sweetheart deal; interesting to see how much time he will serve and the outcome for the other boys.

The CC Times needs to update

The CC Times needs to update their story as it pertains to Levy. It appears as if he is being held without bond for charges relating to the sexual assault incident.

What about Blanton? He pled

What about Blanton? He pled out and got the sexual assault charges dropped, but this story states he was arrested again this past May for providing alcohol to minors AGAIN! You would think he would have learned from his previous "mistake" and stayed out of trouble!

What is the difference

What is the difference between sexual assualt and rape? In my opinion it was rape if the girl did not consent and how could she if she was passed out-unless she led them into the bedroom and then passed out. What Mr. Blanton did was awful but certainly not sexual assualt if he did not touch her. When he gets out of prison I hope he will be a changed person for the better but most do not change their ways.
