NORTH AUGUSTA - North Augusta police recovered two fully loaded assault rifles and an ounce of marijuana Monday morning from a car that was abandoned in the 1000 block of Skyview Drive.

An anonymous tip about a suspicious vehicle circling the block took public safety officers to Skyview Drive about 1 a.m. An officer said a tall man wearing a white T-shirt ran out of the vehicle as he approached, but the man was not apprehended.

When the officer returned to the car, two other men wearing black clothing bailed out of the car but could not be found. In addition to the weapons and drugs, officers said they confiscated two cell phones.

Sounds like a drug deal or

Sounds like a drug deal or even a drive-by or hit might have been in progress. Question is HOW the cops let them get slap away like that?

Crime was going strong last

Crime was going strong last night. My next door neighbor had her back door kicked in before she returned home around 9:50pm. They cut all of the cables outside but luckily, she had a wireless alarm system that went off as soon as they kicked the door in. Plus she had a very large dog inside the home. I thought it was amazing that the police arrived at the home the same time my neighbor arrived.
I hope something can be done about this constant crime going on in Augusta. This is the second break-in within two months just doors apart.

I was wondering. Can an assault rifle be used for defense ? Could one be helpful in a riot situation ? I'm a little worried about riots due to the economy and upcoming elections. Not to mention these criminals who are using them.

Wonder if they had to use

Wonder if they had to use radar to see if the "abandoned" car loaded with three black men was moving? Sounds like it wasn't abandoned, they just didn't apprehend the occupants.

It seems the cell phones and

It seems the cell phones and maybe fingerprints should give them some information. That is, if they want to find them.
