Narcotics investigation leads to 142 arrests

The final number of arrests in a weeklong Richmond County narcotics operation was 142, Lt. Robert Partain said.

The Richmond County Sheriff's Office concluded a seven-day series of street-level investigations Monday, Partain said. During the operation, the Narcotics Division's staff was doubled.

The investigation concentrated on the Harrisburg, Laney-Walker, Turpin Hills, Meadowbrook and Boykin Road areas. Investigators seized drugs, four vehicles and eight firearms, and executed four search warrants during the operation, Partain said.

Taylor.. Did you expect more

Taylor.. Did you expect more or less than eight?? They RCSO sheriff's office does the sweep every year and I wonder how many guns they normaly confiscate..

If you really want to get alot of the guns of the street.. Give people the option to turn in their guns and receive $40 to $50...

Countyman... yeah, those have been proven not to work. The breaking and entering of homes and cars triples the week of the buy back. I guess giving out tax money is your cure to everything, right?

Can you provide the

Can you provide the information to back the claim up?? What this a rare occurence or an trend? Several cities across the US continue to do the buyback program because they seem to be working..

What's your suggestion then?? Let me guess spend more tax money to arrest low level criminals and build more prisons in the county..

Arrest more. The longer

Arrest more. The longer records these people amass the better. IMO it's not about how much money the RCSO has. It's about how they utilize the resources they DO have. I think, not very well. Glad we've had a "sweep" of the streets. Glad a few low level crooks were stopped, if even for a few hours. But the greater problem is the strategy (or lack thereof) of those at the top who prefer to wear a suit rather than a uniform. Simply said, we have a Sheriff who is a politician, not a law enforcement officer.

Unpublished

We also have to many revolving prison doors. I'm all for 2nd chances but not 6th and 7th ones. We also need changes to the juvenile crime laws. Violent crimes and especially sexual assaults should never be expunged from their record. That is one of the dumbest laws on the books. Do we really believe that once they turn 18 they automatically turn into law abiding citizens?

Thank you RCSO. I keep hoping you'll catch some of the queen-pins and their female assistants, too. Arrests that have been listed so far are by and far mostly males.

This is just a thought. Why

This is just a thought. Why don't we build, or have the prisoners, build a prison on 500 acres or rural land. Then have them farm, raise livestock, and supply themselves. They also would be used for labor on county, city projects. The humanitarian services ie Doctors and such would be provided by volunteers or inmates with said training. A labor force to be utilized for the benefit of the city, county,or state. This sitting around with sex, drugs and rock and roll is not the answer. I can remember my Grandfather saying that the chain gang was not a place you ever wanted to go back to. Or, is this cruel and unusual punishment for a crime that was cruel and against the law. Just a passing thought.

People don't usually rob the

People don't usually rob the low level drug dealers.. People rob the neighborhood dopeboy who is usually selling keys/pounds and not blunts for five and ten dollars in terms of weed.. 142 people were arrested and only eight firearms were recovered... One of the criminals arrested could have had more than one gun during the arrest..

If 142 gang members or real thugs were arrested, trust me ALOT more than eight guns would have been recovered...

Broad StNM, so true and to

Broad StNM, so true and to the point of deserving an LOL.

The biggest drug problem in this country is people manipulating willing physicians to overprescribe drugs keeping the soccer moms of this country spaced out probably causing more trouble than a crazed junkie with a pistol. Drug companies and providers of all kinds are the new pushers. When you arrest one of them that will be news.

If you give me $50 for my gun

If you give me $50 for my gun that doesn't work I will be able to buy 2 that do from a crackhead needing the cash. If they'll spend all day ripping copper wire out of a home they will certainly go steal you a gun.
As far as drug dealers getting robbed, they do, that is their biggest fear. The prison time doesn't scare them as much as getting robbed. I know this for a fact. I've had hundreds of them tell me if it wasn't for prison, they'd be dead right now.
The only way to save money and get rid of drug related crimes is to stop giving public assistance. No free home, food stamps and welfare and they'll move without batting an eye.

One more thing before ya'll

One more thing before ya'll that disagree with anything and everything that you didn't say yourself. Watch the paper for the next 3 or 4 weeks and see what happens when that drug money dries up. The dealer that went to jail gave back to the community and kept things somewhat cool. Now these kids will hold up stores, mug people and carjack. Don't say anything yet just wait for it. It spiked after augusta ink and a small world. No i'm not taking up for them. Just saying don't give them a reason to live here in the first place. They shouldn't feel comfortable here, we should.

AsitisinAug.. Why on earth

AsitisinAug.. Why on earth would we beleive you when we know you love to make claims without any facts to back them up.. I'm certain I know a whole lot more than you do when it comes to young people banging in the year 2011.. Real gang members or thugs in Augusta have atleast a pistol and love choppas aka AK-47'S..

Operation Fox Hunt earlier this year arrested 61 people and seized 192 guns.. While this operation had 142 people arrested and only 8 guns confiscated..

There's a major diffrence between somebody focused on selling a few blunts on the corner.. Compared to people who are hustling, robbing, and aren't afraid to shoot at anytime..
