Copper thieves almost ruin food bank’s stock

  • Follow Crime & courts

Golden Harvest Food Bank employees rushed to save 57,000 pounds of food Friday morning after thieves stealing copper damaged the main freezer.

Employees discovered the loss of power to the freezer after arriving early Friday. Officials estimate that if the theft had not been noticed in time, all of the food would have spoiled.

The fence surrounding Golden Harvest's Faith Food Factory and Tomberlin facility on Old Savannah Road was also vandalized overnight, Golden Harvest officials said.

I would call the thieves a name, but I might get banned. Some of you can get away with calling them names, because I have seen name calling ( I agreed with) yesterday and today that have not been removed.

Just when I think thieves can

Just when I think thieves can sink no lower, oh wait.. They're already the lowest!!
Golden Harvest does so much good in the community, now more than ever. To you low life's, I truly hope you get yours!
If these recycling places would start taking ID, checking into it, etc. the copper theft would see a decline.
The one off Mike Padgett said no, they don't bat an eyelash, even if one walks in toting a ton of it. That's a huge problem imo!!

They take it out of town. It probably got sold in SC or FL, where no one would be suspicious.

Until they lock up the buyers

Until they lock up the buyers -- on a weekend with no judge to set bail-- and then prosecute them for receiving stolen property, one count per ac unit savaged-- they will continue to reap the benefits of paying pennies for hundreds of dollars worth of metals.

C'mon, they buy manhole covers fer chrissakes, with the city of Augusta name molded into them, then claim they didn't know they were stolen. I wonder; what percentage is the judicial system is pocketing to look the other way?

Sadly that there is too much

Sadly that there is too much money being made all around with the low lives of this county. Those of us that are decent law abiding, tax paying citizens must take a stand, or else leave. What happens when all of us are gone? Can anyone say....Justice Department?

Let the hundreds of hungry

Let the hundreds of hungry people who depend on the food bank for meals have a go at the miscreants. You know like one of those movies where hundreds of zombies are coming.

I think these people are

I think these people are going to far. They steal copper for drugs and care about not one. We put electric fences up to keep our animals in , how about electric fences to keep these animals out. One grab of the fence and they will think twice before trying to get more copper. So let's light them up.....

The salvage and junk yards

The salvage and junk yards are just as crooked. Don't tell me that they don't know copper thieves are turning in copper stolen from businesses, churches, and anywhere else. The salvage yards see this as money in their pockets too, so the crooked will not be policeing the crooked anytime soon.
