Man receives life plus 55 years for Cherry Tree Crossing killing

  • Follow Crime & courts

A man visiting from North Carolina who ambushed two men, killing one and wounding the other, was sentenced to life in prison plus 55 years.

A Richmond County Superior Court jury convicted James T. Daughtie of all charges Thursday evening. Daughtie shot 25-year-old Delestern D. Kyler to death and wounded Ozzie B. Jones in the early hours of Aug. 19.

Investigators think Daughtie followed the men from a nightclub to a Waffle House and to Cherry Tree Crossing housing project, where the shooting occurred.

Daughtie was visiting a relative in August, just weeks after his release from a federal prison. He had been convicted of drug dealing in 2004.

If you give him the needle

If you give him the needle the taxpayer has to pay for keeping him in jail for at least 20 years anyway, PLUS a couple of million Dollars for the lawyers to handle his appeals. Much, much cheaper this way.....
