A 2-month-old girl died at Medical College of Georgia Hospital early Friday morning from severe brain trauma from shaking or mishandling, Richmond County sheriff's Sgt. Blaise Dresser said.

Zion Harris was taken to the hospital Wednesday with bruising to the face and body, and severe brain trauma. She was pronounced dead at 2:06 a.m., according to the sheriff's office.

The father, Jacques Butler, 20, of the 1100 block of Nellieville Drive, was charged Thursday with first- degree cruelty to children.

A charge of murder was added Friday, Dresser said. Zion's death is Richmond County's third homicide of the year.

I hope this is an old booking

I hope this is an old booking photo. This monster has a smirk on his face after allegedly causing the death of his 2 month old child?

This man deserves no

This man deserves no sympathy. He should be put on industrial grade paint mixer and be shaken until dead. That simple.

Believing as I do, the child

Believing as I do, the child is spared of a mortal life with this monster. She will now spend eternity with a Father that loves perfectly, something this earthly father doesn't have the capacity to do. God Bless her.

My human nature wants Mr. Butler to be quickly sent off to his father, the devil. It sure is difficult for me to see him as human.

Like so many, Mr. Butler

Like so many, Mr. Butler found it so easy to assume the role of a biological father, but had no clue about how to BE a father to his child. Another tragic example of what happens when the nuclear family breaks down. No marriage between the couple. No loving family tie. A child, but no real father. Same scene gets played out far too many times in our community, and the result (though not often this tragic) is nearly always sad.

howcan, being of the same

howcan, being of the same spiritual mindset, isn't it amazing how we long for our father's approval. It's almost as if a father's approval were built into our DNA [insert chuckle that only a few would understand]

NancyCastr, that should have

NancyCastr, that should have been done long ago. His type do not marry. They just keep "spreading their seed". Too bad the child wasn't born to deserving parents that will love and nurture children.

One report mentioned the high

One report mentioned the high rate of these crimes in our area. If a judge or jury is letting these folks back out on the streets then they have some explaining to do.

NancyCasto, how about we skip

NancyCasto, how about we skip sterilization and go straight for castration? I'll volunteer a rusty butter knife for anyone who wants to do the job :)

Zion, you're in my prayers tonite. I'll pray you're in that perpetual playground in the sky with all the others that were taken way too soon.

I had been mitigating this in

I had been mitigating this in my own mind as a possible accident by an overwhelmed immature father. But then I re-read the baby's injuries, bruising to the face and body. This was more than a shaken baby, this baby was beaten it sounds like. This was flat out murder.

The child is certainly better

The child is certainly better off...or certainly in a better place. Interesting that there is no word on the mother. She's made mistakes, like all of us have, but meeting up with this man is the worst of them.

I had heard he was special

I had heard he was special needs in school. So what makes this different than the 13 year old who caused the teacher to lose her baby? Both special needs, both babies died. The 13 year old get aggrevated assault charges, the 20 yr old gets murder charges. The 13 year old may stay in jail till 21, the 20 yr old gets a lot longer, maybe life?

Where was social services?

Where was social services?

Any newborn going home to parents who are that young need to be closely followed, and given parenting courses, and a regular visit from someone who can help them. That does not excuse the parent's actions, ever!
It is totally unreasonable to ever hit or harm a small child for ANY reason.
A Child needs unconditional love, and loving touch for their first few years.
Once they hit kindergarten, other kids will hurt them, but the parents should be the protectors, not the perpetrator.
Love your children....each child is truly a gift....in fact, a fragile, priceless gift. Break that fragile gift, and they can never be fixed.

Treat them as kindly, and sweetly as possible. The cold, cruel world will eventually get to them, but a parent's job is to love and protect this priceless, irreplacable child. Both parents.
They shouldn't be given a second chance with a child, ever.
Neither parent deserve a second chance.
