Marijuana found in SWAT team's sweep

  • Follow Crime & courts

Two teenagers woke up Friday morning to find North Augusta Public Safety's SWAT team sweeping through their house.

The special unit and investigators were at the home in the 1600 block of Georgia Avenue about 6:15 a.m. to serve a narcotics search warrant.

Investigators said they found a small marijuana plant and small quantities of marijuana in the house, along with beer.

The suspects, Lawrence Spence, 19, and William Anderson, 18, said the drugs were for their personal use, a report states. They were ticketed for simple possession of marijuana and for minors in possession of alcohol.

Sounds like the police got

Sounds like the police got some bad info. Hardly worth calling out the SWAT team with a search warrant for the end results.

You mean they couldn't even

You mean they couldn't even find a nickel bag worth of pot and a pack of papers during a swat team bust?...It's no longer the kids that are out of control it's law enforcement.

Do you think it is possible

Do you think it is possible that this was an attempt to gain info. from the kids to find out who the supplier is? That's usually how it is done. Some of you may see it as overkill, but I assume you wouldn't object if it were done in your neighborhood. Of course some of you think that it would never occur in your area. Crime has no borders.

This story is too tame.

This story is too tame. Here's some real drug abatement news with an illegal immigrant slant.

@ Jazz...read the article

@ Jazz...read the article again...THEY found a PLANT and SMALL QUANTITIES of MaryJuana...:-)
From my perspective, they are their OWN SUPPLIERS...and not real good at it! I think this was a waste of resources since at the exact same time this bust was going on, someone was over on Georgia Ave firing up a Bob Marley Blunt filled with about a DIME BAG worth of Herb! That would have been a more productive bust...puff, puff, give! puff, puff, BUST!

It displays the stupidity of

It displays the stupidity of our war on drugs. We have high powered, highly trained SWAT teams after kids with a marijuana plant. Let's take the billions being wasted on this hopeless war and use it for treatment of addicts and THE education of young people to stay off drugs. We could do it at one hundreth of the cost and actually DECREASE the use of drugs and DRAMATICALLY DECREASE CRIME.

They may have been going on

They may have been going on tips or what witnesses claimed.
As a civilian, you can report known drug activity or drug houses, (had one on our street that was watched for weeks) and it's up to LEO to make the next step.
To bad this was a bust literally, didn't pan out for them..

Yes, this calls for electrocution of those dangerous vermin. Guilty of Conspiracy to Embarrass a law enforcement agent. Nothing worse in this mindless bureaucracy.

Was this a no-knock

Was this a no-knock warrant?
How much money and time went into this. Since it is North Augusta the resources would have just been used to write speeding tickets to people going 2-5mph over the limit.

Obviously North Augusta police have pregnant visions of being immortalized on a future episode of "Cops," the camera focused on the squad car driver being interviewed as he patrols the vicious streets of the sleeping city.

Oh well, it COULD be worse.

Oh well, it COULD be worse. In California, tax payer money would have been used in an all-out assault for having a pack of cigarettes in their possession.

"Well it is illegal"

Yep. For now. And so is throwing a gum wrapper on the ground. Should we start ramming peoples doors down and pointing submachine guns at people for doing that?

If anyone thinks this type of thing stops violent crime they are too far gone for me to talk any sense into.

Legalize it. Move on.

I just wish NA Public Safety
Unpublished

I just wish NA Public Safety would concentrate on all of those Richmond and Columbia County residents who are in such a hurry to run me off the road so they can get into the Wal-Mart parking lot. Has anybody figured out why these "drivers" have to make a 3 lane change to get to Wal-mart? Or why they insist on making U-turns at the intersection near WalGreens?

But back to the thread...sounds like someone setup this bust...trumped up the quantities these kids had/have.

If NA Public Safety wants to

If NA Public Safety wants to do the SWAT thing then hop a plane to Ciudad Juarez and walk around. I was there last year on busuness and I wont go back. Better carry a $100 bill for the police that WILL stop you and shake you down. Hmmmm.. maybe NA would fit right in after all.

The ones here normally stop

The ones here normally stop you and just harass you, maybe accuse you of a few things and let you go after about 30mins.

Also you get to hear their interpretation of laws, helps to know how the law is written when that happens. I have been told my GA carry permit does not allow me to carry in grocery or department stores by RCSO before.

Dear teamloser; Next time

Dear teamloser; Next time some cop who knows nothing about the law of the land says that just tell them, fine, I will just carry it open, on my hip. Course you can do as I and many others do and that is use the 2nd as your carry "permit" and if the store (private property) doesn't want you armed for protection, tell them what they can do with their business and go to a AMERICAN store to safely' shop.
