Richmond County Sheriff's inviestigators say a man reported being robbed at gunpoint after withdrawing money from an ATM Wednesday evening.

The man told police he was returning to his vehicle from the Bank of America ATM at 3509 Wheeler Road about 9 p.m. when multiple subjects approached him, one with a sawed-off shotgun, police said.

The subjects took his wallet before driving away, he said.

Sorry about the guy getting

Sorry about the guy getting robbed. That Bank of America/ATM always seems to attract suspicious cars/people out in the parking lot at night.

Before walking or driving up
Unpublished

Before walking or driving up to an ATM, pull your .45 and waive it around above your head for a few minutes for everyone to see, then keep it out and at ready through the entire transaction until you're safely back in you vehicle and driving. Look around you before, during, and after, make certain you're not being followed after leaving.

It's all about paying

It's all about paying attention to your environment. As I (re)learned a couple of weeks ago, there is no crime-free zone --even in CC-- since the projects were broken up. Now the criminals are interspersed in all neighborhoods.

Smart move with giving up to the sawed off; even with a drug dealer/gang banger sideways grip a shotgun at close range will usually be fatal. I'd have given them the change in the ashtray as well. Hope you got a license plate; BoA security surveillance is P-poor and unco-operative.

That's why I NEVER use

That's why I NEVER use walk-up ATMs. Whenever I use ATMs, i use the drive up types, always stay aware of my surrounding throughout the whole transaction, and keep the vehicle in DRIVE and foot near the gas and all doors locked.

Or you could get cash from various retailers/grocery stores/ vendors who offer cash back with transactions.

People have to think more proactively, instead of reactively. We must think in the mode of "HOW CAN I PREVENT MYSELF FROM BEING A VICTIM OF A CRIME?" frame of mind.

Was that ATM next to the ATM

Was that ATM next to the ATM that got jacked using the fork lift (like a scene out of Barber shop)? Suppose they'd rather the people get robbed than the ATMs themselves.

People please stop going to to an ATM at night. It is bad enough in the broad daylight.
