Teen charged in fatal shooting denied bond

  • Follow Crime & courts

A teenager accused of fatally shooting 47-year-old Roderick Tolbert was denied bond Friday.

Keon Deshez Leverett, 19, of the 200 block of Hale Street, was charged with murder, armed robbery and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.

He allegedly shot the victim on Oct. 9 during a drug deal, according to Assistant District Attorney Natalie Spires.

Leverett was seen running from the scene with a bag that contained 5 pounds of marijuana that authorities said Tolbert had planned to sell to him. The shooting happened in the 300 block of Sterling Street outside the victim's father's house.

Im Roderick Tolbert's niece

Im Roderick Tolbert's niece and for the record NO one saw a bag of 5 pounds. It was just hear say she say because of the area. This, quote on quote is the motive. My uncle worked hard and selling drugs was not his answer. He did home renovations such as sheetrock, cleaning and lawn care faithfully. Either way he did not deserve to be killed over anything. Especially drugs. He took the life of a person who is irreplacable in many other lives. A father, brother, uncle, and friend to many. Even if drugs were involved his death is still a serious matter. This incident is taken lightly by most readers but our family is suffering. Children with guns, drugs and lack of care for law enforcement and punishment is serious. I MISS YOU UNCLE ROD*****Only God really knows how we are feeling******
