The suspect's gold Lexus hadn't left the Kroger parking lot yet before officers pulled up behind it about 7:50 a.m.
The driver, Lawrence Jackson Jr., 40, fled the parking lot as officers approached on foot and a chase ensued down the center median of Knox Avenue, a report said.
The vehicle pursuit ended on a corner of Georgia Avenue where Jackson reportedly fled on foot, but an officer grabbed him before he got far. A tussle followed in which Jackson was shocked with a Taser and brought under control.
The manager of Kroger told deputies Jackson put $70 worth of ribs and steak in his pants and tried to walk out the door.
Jackson was charged with failure to stop for flashing lights, shoplifting, giving false information, reckless driving, driving on a suspended license and resisting arrest.
