Woman robbed at Walton Way ATM

  • Follow Crime & courts

A woman told officers she was robbed at gunpoint this morning at the Bank of America ATM at 1450 Walton Way.

According to a Richmond County Sheriff's Office incident report, she was withdrawing money from the ATM around 1 a.m. when a man approached her window and pointed a silver-colored revolver at her. After taking her money, the man fled to the rear of the building and got into a car.

She told officers she recognized the car and had casually spoken to the three men inside while their vehicles sat side-by-side waiting for a train to pass on 12th Street. She did notice the vehicle follow her in the bank parking lot afterward but then became distracted while on her cell phone.

The vehicle is described as a light tan or gold Ford Crown Victoria with dark tint on the windows.

Taking Chillen's idea to the next level
1) Go to the range and become a crack shot.
2) Get a carry permit and exercise your 2nd amendment right.
3) Frequent ATMs in the bad part of town in the middle of the night.

Chillen I should be able to

Chillen I should be able to go to an ATM anytime I want to. Which I do, and I am armed.

Cowboy carrying a handgun is not arming yourself. You need to have a good sense of situational awareness and the fortitude to be able to defend yourself.

Paulsmom you do not need a carry permit to exercise your 2nd amendment rights. You can also car carry, in Georgia, without the Georgia Weapons License.

Good job letting these animals scare you all. In letting them control what you do you are letting them win.

You say its about being

You say its about being smart. Why is it smart to not go at 1am? Because of the possibility of getting robbed? Wouldn't that mean you are afraid of getting robbed? These same scumbags can come kick your door in while you are cowering.

Maybe she just got off from

Maybe she just got off from work or was on on lunch break folks and needed some cash to get something to eat. There are 3 hospitals right there, she could be a nurse, etc. and just got off work and they work all kinds of hours. I know most places take debit cards these days but some folks don't like using them at fast food places for some reason.

Read this article's third

Read this article's third paragraph again. I'm not saying she deserved to get robbed. However, she was asleep at the wheel.

Who talks to a group of men at 1 am that they don't know? She saw them follow her into the parking lot but she stopped concentrating on the possible danger to talk on the phone? She is a very, very lucky woman. She could have been raped too. She had a Guardian Angel on her shoulder that night.

Okay, people can go to ATM's

Okay, people can go to ATM's anytime they want, that one's been argued. How about having a casual conversation with three strange men that late at night while sitting at a train stop, how about talking on your cell phone and not paying attention to your surroundings while drawing money out of an ATM? The perps had already figured out she was a dummie before they robbed her.

To answer your question RAWR,

To answer your question RAWR, yes, I'm afraid of being robbed at 1am at an ATM machine. Everyone else should be too.

I would NEVER go out, under any circumstance, at that hour to get money from an ATM. Not smart. Your odds of something bad happening multiply ten or twenty fold as evidenced by this woman's plight.

One of the previous posters

One of the previous posters is correct. To carry in your home, car, or place of business requires no permit of any kind. The GWL permit is for carrying openly or concealed anywhere but those three places. And you better get one while you can.

When I went it was $34.95 - they are now up to $75.00

21 days from fingerprinting to license in my hand from Columbia County Pro-bate court.

1) Don't do really stupid stuff like go to ATM machines at 1 am and then

2) You won't need to carry a gun.

That isn't a good enough

That isn't a good enough argument Corgi. Have you forgotten all the robberies that are taking place in broad daylight?? Nowadays, sorry, you need to carry a gun to feel safer no matter where you are!
Why judging this woman? Ok, so she should have picked up on something when they followed her to the bank, maybe she felt it was better to have idle chatter with these men than ignore them. People have some really short fuses now, who knows what the woman was thinking!

Dear paulsmom &

Dear paulsmom & ArmedandLegal; Where in the Second Amendment to the Constitution does it say anything about a government "permit" , govt' fees, I.D's/fingerprinting or required government training or "licenses"??

paulsmom; 2) Get a carry permit and exercise your 2nd amendment right.
