Johnny Patrick Thibodaux (shown), Carron Anthony Winfrey and Brandon White have been arrested in the Friday shooting of Damion Alex Collier. They are charged with murder.

Brandon White, 20, of the 2400 block of Belgrade Court in Augusta, was captured on the morning of the homicide but was charged and held in connection to another, nonfatal shooting, according to Richmond County sheriff's Capt. Scott Peebles.

Charges against him have been upgraded to murder.

Investigators believe Collier's shooting in the 1900 block of Second Avenue was gang-related. However, authorities do not believe Collier was the intended target, Peebles said.

Carron Anthony Winfrey, 21, of 3515 Gardenbrook Drive in Augusta, turned himself in to authorities Monday evening, according to Sgt. Blaise Dresser. Johnny Patrick Thibodaux, 20, of 3706 Teakwood Court in Hephzibah, was also arrested Monday evening. Authorities believe Winfrey and Thibodaux were also involved in the nonfatal shooting on Sept. 12 near the intersection of Laney-Walker Boulevard and Twigg Street.

Charles Lawson III, 19, was shot once in the arm while driving, Peebles said. Lawson then lost control and flipped his vehicle.

Current charges against the three suspects include murder, three counts of aggravated assault and two counts of possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.

I had Brandon as a student a couple of years ago; a very intelligent young man who has definitely decided to travel on a path that leads to destruction. This cycle of violence in our community will only stop when we make a stand and take back our community. We can't point fingers at the "white man" any longer. Fathers make or break the home and we must be diligent in supporting the importance of the role of fathers in the home. My prayers go out to the victim's family and Brandon's, as well.

Cestlavie, I really appreciate your comment. The only way it can be stopped is from within the immediate community. Government can and continues to throw money at the problem, dispersed via bureaucrats. It has proven time after time not to work. It's got to be interpersonal, one on one.

None of them are even old

None of them are even old enough to drink alcohol and yet they are murderous thugs who have ruined many lives including their own. People can keep looking to place bleme everywhere except where it belongs but they will continue to get the same results. Until communities are as upset about violent youth as they are at law enforcement for doing their jobs and until they take positive steps to stop the problem and work in conjunction with law enforcement, nothing will ever change. Great job to the RCSO for aprehending these murderers now lets just hope the courts gives them the appropriate punishment which is the death penalty.

There is a severe breakdown

There is a severe breakdown of the family unit in the African-American community. Just today, I saw a young lady that is pregnant with her 2nd child and she is only 15 years old. What kind of stable home environment can she provide, and more importantly, what kind of parental guidance can she give? She is a child herself. We have to deal with the cycle of children having children. There is a problem when the child is 15, the mother is 30, and the grandmother is 45 (true story). The men in our community need to step up and begin to take responsibility for the decline, and come up with strategies to address the issues. Otherwise, we will continue to perpetuate institutional slavery among ourselves by looking for answers from "massa gob'mint" instead of eliminating the "crab" mentality and pulling ourselves up out of this nightmare of violence.

Hello Augustan's,,,I think

Hello Augustan's,,,I think Augusta has sunk pretty low,,economy.jobs and crime is stripping communties apart,,I feel highly in favor that georgia as well as all US states should revamp the justice system altogether,,society knows it is getting worse every day,,not just every year now,,the death penalty should be bought forth across America ASAP for people who commit murder beyond a resonable doubtmmyou should have a trial and one appeal in 90 days,,if found guilty beyond resonable doubt,,should be put too death within 60 days of appeal trial and quit draining our economy and make room in the prisons for those who just cant live in society,,sounds harsh,,but we are in a time where the world better wake up and take off the rose colored glasses,,them days are over,,i hear gunshot every eveing just about,,drugs, murder and wantabe gangs that murder, rob, rape, sell, and do drugs is their life,,so take them out of the element,,and if you decide that path is worth the chance,,know the consequences if your caught,,,Augusta is dumping money in all the wrong places,,gate these crime ridden apartment places and assign security guard and electronic pass card to even enter,,guest have to show id and sign in,,it works!!!i reported a drug house last year to Richmond county narcotics,,they said they know all about it,,but they are still slinging the drugs left and right,,they know but wont do anything,,the constiution is giving criminals the way out,,,if they are doing crimes,,use the resourse to get them off the streets,,wait till around november, december,,,murders, robbries, assaults and drug related incedents will far surpass any other months this year here in Augusta,,,police know the bad areas,,but rather wait till the shooting is over to go in and do something to prevent it,,,people know all this in Augusta unless your under a rock!!but mayor, police agengies are not doing what is needed,,everybody gives RCSD way too much credit on their performance,,they pick and choose who they want,,mostly dui's and speeders versus the gangs, thugs and drug dealers,,they drive right by them, see it happen very often,,i dont live in bad nieborhood at all,,Summerville,,but crime right around the corner is right there in public view everyday,,but i cant take the law in my own hands to do nything,,so i hear them shoot it out, watch them stand around and drink alcohol and sell drugs, loiter in public lots, walk around to scope their next victims,,but when i do see a richmond county police car,,the crime has been over with and they are clueless,,are they afraid to go after all these wannaba thugs and delers or are they paid to look away,,The Mayor and augusta comissioners are too worried about wasting money on golf course and ways to make Masters golf tourist confortable for a week or so,,gate these drug holes up,get some killers in the electric chair, and get the jobs going back in Augusta instead of trying to beautify the slums and give the upper class the protection and streets swept,,catch them drug dealing staying with their section 8 babies moma and put them both in jail,,there are so many small steps that Augusta could do to cut the crime and murders,,but they have different priorities obviously!! wake up the mayor, commissioners and the Police here in Augusta and tell them that a 5th grader could solve half these problems,,it is a joke here in Augusta,,1rst friday is out of control..thought that was to get families out,,they must mean the gangs and thugs,,was a freak show,,just some simple solutions..but who am I to say,,listen to richomond county police scanner on the weekend,,it is a joke, where they are going to eat,,call me on my cell#, while there are bullets flying,,Really???????

Apparently, jail must be a nice place. Young men continue to shoot each other like it's nothing and they seem to have no remorse. There needs to be more police reinforcement in the Augusta area. It should be mandatory that ALL young men who isn't attending college or has dropped out of school, should be forced to enlist in the army. Hell, if you want to fight, fight for your country. Then the world can see how great of a shooter they really are. Something is definitely wrong with the jail system because these young men are performing such senseless acts. Where is the future of the black man headed?

Fish>>> I'm an active duty NCO and you are right. I don't want them. Our rules and standards in the military have changed to such a degree that these clowns come in, your tax money is wasted trying to train them and they end up being put out for drug use or worse. The Military isn't the same as it was 20 years ago. Standards of discipline are relaxed. Give me your citizens who want a good job and are not affraid to work. You can take the piece of crap in the picture above and put a hole in him. Problem solved my friend.

I'm glad these three were

I'm glad these three were caught. I don't understand why so many people committ crimes when the track record for getting caught by RCSD is not in their favor. Aside from that, the current problems of the Black community are the result of things that should have been corrected but became socially acceptable instead. There have always been babies born out of wedlock, but it seems young girls having multiple children by different fathers that are absent during the child's upbringing has become commonplace. No one is addressing the issue at all. The children in turn grow up with very little respect for anyone or anything. They ultimately trade their own self-worth for self destruction. If they valued their own lives, they would fear going to jail, prison, and captial punishment so much that they wouldn't be so eager to take someone else's life. There are now four families and all of society left to grieve a tremendous loss. The Collier family is grieving because their son, who doesn't even appear to have been the intended target, has been killed. The Thibodaux, Winfrey, and White families are left to grieve because their sons may possibly never see freedom again, or be put to death in prison. Society as a whole should grieve because this was a senseless killing of a young man with potential for greatness by other young men with obviously unrealized potential for greatness that, had they sought education instead of violence, could have possibly positively impacted others. I often wonder how many of these murdered young people and their young killers could have possibly become scientists, engineers, doctors, lawyers, or inventors and actually contributed to society if only they had chosen a different way to live. Anytime someone, especially a young person is killed, it is a loss to society because the good things that person could have accomplished will never be realized.

Well it takes a village to

Well it takes a village to raise a child, and that concept left long ago. There was a time if kids were out of line, adults wouldn't hesitate to correct the child, but nowadays, people actually fight if their child is corrected, even in the school setting. There is a crisis in the african american communities, but there are issues across all racial lines............
I say it all the time, if America wants to really be great, and not just spew rhetoric, we have to want everyone child to succeed in this country. We'll never stop stupid people from having kids, but we still have to mold and teach all kids whenever possible, its dangerous, but we have to get off the sidelines and blog sites and fight the good fight.

What if I told all of you

What if I told all of you that Brandon is actually a very smart young man. A and B honor role and very good ball player. That he had a very good job. That he comes from a very small but good family with an excellent background that shows much love and that is successful. That he was a good mentor to smaller childern and had a very giving heart. That this is the first time that he has ever been in trouble and that his family is grieving for colliers family and him at the same time. This doesn't excuse what he did and he is envolved and justice should be serve, but never judge a book by it's cover or where they live. As parents you can do all you can to teach your children morals and make sure they are on the right track. All dummies don't live in projects even though that's how society lables most of us. Brandon is very loved and his family is very numb to what has happen because this is not him at all!!!!!

C2 soldier I don't agree with

C2 soldier I don't agree with that I spend everyday on Ft. Gordon, and the military is great place for young wayward kids to find themselves, and become positive citizens who contribute to society. The weak links are always weeded out, but for those seeking opportunity and chance, the military is often a step in the right direction.

Parents, what i am about to

Parents, what i am about to say in no way is meant to blame, I am the parent of young adults and I know first hand that you are not always responsible for the road that they take. We are in an economic crunch right now and jobs are scarce to say the least but one thing that a young man needs is a job. Parents, don't allow these young men to continue to live under your roof without a job. You go out and work everyday make them do the same. Any old job will do to build some self worth and cut down on the idol time. I live in a middleclass neighborhood that requires an income to maintain a living here and I see young men walking the streets in the middle of the day too many times. When I see them I ask them are they working and if not why. When I see friends of my children and they don't seem to be doing their best, theyget a lecture and advice at best. My kids hate it but I tell them that that is my commitment and I will educate these young people one at a time. If others will do the same we will make a difference. If your child dropped out of highschool make them get a GED. Augusta Tech gives the test and has free classes to prepare if they need refreshing. This will help them get a job. There are jobs for young people, they just need a highschool diploma or GED, either or. There are also practice test for the GED on line, they can go to any public library and use the computors. There is a brand new library downtown and Diamond Lakes has a library with computor access. Take them and get them started, its not too late.

hrblunt1956 I will assume

hrblunt1956 I will assume that 1956 is the year of your birth, if this is true you have alot of life experience to offer if we can get past the anger. Yes we are in an awful mess, but those sentiments will not change the situation. The parents of these young men are not necessarily to blame for what they did and it is not fair to blame them in the blanketed way that you did. But I am not going to bash you for you feelings because it is very frustrating to see the state of some of our young people today. It is very easy to take a good kid aside and talk to them and point down the path that they are already on, but the difference comes in when we take a minute to talk to the kid thatwas raised or abandoned by a mother addicted to drugs or a kid that never had a father tell them what a man does in a household. These are the ones we have to reach. Some of them want to do better they just have no guidence. Talk to one or two a week, unfortunately they are not hard to find.

YES ! of what these people are doing to the vey nature of desent people who chose to live good decent lives . they choose to be this way , being poor has only served as an excuse to do what they they do , they know better , ony a mental person is innnocent of his / her mis-aligned decision making abilities . please don't patronize us all by that soft talk of all the what if's , people are dead !!! lives are recked !! and people are scared that they are next to be victimized ..and they can't afford for these monsters to have a change of heart at the expense of their lives !
