Traffic stop nets 10 kilos of cocaine

A man hauling 10 kilograms of cocaine in a rented SUV apparently looked so intently into the rear-view mirror for blue lights that his erratic driving caught the attention of police , investigators say.

The driver, Barry Cook, 50, was pulled over on eastbound Interstate 20 at Walton Way Extension for failure to maintain his lane, records show.

A drug-sniffing dog alerted officers on Cook's 2010 Chevrolet Tahoe, which had been rented in Atlanta, and a search revealed 10 kilograms, or 22 pounds, of cocaine with a street value of $500,000 in a cooler, said Richmond County s heriff's Sgt. Allan Rollins.

Cook, of Nichols, S.C., was ticketed for the traffic violation and arrested on charges of trafficking in cocaine and driving on a suspended license. His passenger, James Cox, 63, was arrested on suspicion of trafficking in cocaine.
