Martinez man reports robbery attempt

  • Follow Crime & courts

A 41-year-old Martinez man said two men attempted to rob him Friday night.

According to a Richmond County Sheriff's Office report, the victim was in his vehicle in the 600 block of Bohler Avenue about 10:45 p.m. talking on his cell phone.

Two men approached the driver's side, and one tapped his window with a handgun.

The other then opened the driver's door and began searching through the victim's pockets but didn't take anything. When the man with the handgun told the victim he was going to shoot him, he drove away.

The victim said the men were last seen running west on Fenwick Street. He didn't want to prosecute, according to the report.

Troy Infantoy, it's common in

Troy Infantoy, it's common in a news story to include where a person lives. What if it had said "Augusta man"? Would you still be bothered?

I agree that it should be

I agree that it should be included in the body of the text, probably in the lead paragraph. But in the Headline/Banner? Maybe I'm picking nits, but the fact that he is from Martinez has nothing to do with anything other than to influence readers to make a subconscious connect between Martinez and crime. Let's be honest.....

So, why waste the police time calling them to the scene??? Now, that's a waste of Richmond County tax dollars by a conservative from Columbia County.

True, Troy Infantoy. I agree

True, Troy Infantoy. I agree that it probably doesn't need to be in the headline. A location of the incident would have been better.

There has been an increase in

There has been an increase in bizarre criminal incidents lately. How come he didn't drive away before he allowed someone to "search his pockets"?
