Police say father ordered 9-year-old girl to drink

  • Follow Crime & courts

Richmond County officers arrested an Augusta father Wednesday and charged him with making his 9-year-old daughter get drunk, and threatening to kill her if she didn't drink.

Augusta father Jeffery Hickson had a blood-alcohol level of 0.23 when he was arrested; his 9-year-old daughter's was 0.165.

The child's mother, Francis Harris, told deputies she got a call about 11 p.m. from her daughter, who was crying and asking to be immediately picked up from her father, according to a news release from Capt. Scott Peebles.

When Harris and officers arrived, they met Jeffery Deon Hickson, 39, driving up with his daughter and a 5-year-old child from another relationship, Peebles said.

Police said both the 9-year-old and Hickson were intoxicated. The daughter had a blood-alcohol content of 0.165 and the father registered a 0.23, police said.

Deputies determined Hickson ordered the child "to drink or he would kill her," Peebles said.

Once Hickson learned his daughter called her mom, he allegedly drove the child to an unknown area and walked her into a wooded area, Peebles said.

Hickson took the child back to the residence after receiving a call asking him to return.

The child was taken to Medical College of Georgia Hospital.

Disgusting. Maybe the mom

Disgusting. Maybe the mom can use this as grounds to deny visitation in the future. No way should someone that stupid be left in charge of a child.

He probably had legal

He probably had legal visitation rights up to this point. She was smart enough to involve the police so now she has proof and will hopefully be able to get his visitation rights revoked (which might all be a moot point since it sounds like Daddy will be in jail for a while).

Has anyone thought that the court gave the father the right to have the child for certain days? We do not know the whole story, so stop blaming the mother. She is not the one who got her daughter drunk.

Its unbelievable what some 'parents' will do to their kids. Glad the mom called the police and hopefully the other child's mother will take heed to what has happened here and cut the father off from contact with her child.

Maybe he can get 24/7 'guidance' for a few years courtesy of the State. That, and perhaps some 'group therapy' from the folks on his cellblock.

I have to agree with Austin on this one. This man lacks all responsibilty and he should never have custody of his kids without supervision.

Happychimer, Where do you see

Happychimer, Where do you see the mother being blamed? I can't find it. I believe everyone posting here are rooting for the mother to get sole custody and the father to lose all visitation rights. This father should get the Fool's Award of the Year. It does sound like he was planning something more sinister with his child later in the night. I am glad she had the presence of mind to call her mother.

I know this comment will

I know this comment will probably be censored, but this man should be castrated. He should never be allowed to be in the presence of his (or any one else's children) alone. All parental rights should be terminated.

themaninthemirror I agree with your 1:13. He had a plan when he walked that child into a wooded area. If he had not gotten a phone call, he might have killed the child.

Now now Austin Rhodes we can

Now now Austin Rhodes we can not use the word idiot on here. I got an email from Sean Moore saying that is a no no. I would use a rather more subtle word, like dummy. But I agree with you, he is a flipping idiot. Ok Sean send me that email and tell how wrong I am AGAIN!

Where is the outpouring of haye from the black community for this scum. As always it would appear he just needs to talk to his pastor and everything will be OK. I did notice that some of the above posters are already in a mood to partially forgive him.

A person that seriously

A person that seriously threatens to kill his child should be taken at his word. This is incredible abuse of a child, every bit as damaging as a severe beating would have been. And it doesn't matter why he did it.

No, no one should be blaming

No, no one should be blaming the mother at all for this, probably did have visitation rights I am so glad that the little girl called her mother and the mother called the police, and I hope they take his visitation away from him, what man would force his child to drink anything at all and they tell them if they don't they would kill them, not a real man or father

First off, I think the

First off, I think the Chronicle needs to change the title of this article from "Dad charged with getting 9-year old drunk" to "Man charged.....". No way should this scum be considered a "Dad"! Sperm-donor maybe, but not Dad. Secondly, maybe they should release this punk to the wife's family and let them invoke some real justice on him! I mean, this is really ridiculous and horrific! I sure hope the little girl gets some good help for this, because she's going to need it.

Here's yet another fine example of parenting. The father ought to be locked away for the safety of all children. At least the mom seems to have good sense, bravo to her for taking steps to save her daughter.

Jeffrey Deon Hickson is obviously a sperm donor, not a father. Put him in jail, and let the other cretins in the general population know of his violation. Justice will be served......release the hounds!
