Glenn Hills Principal Frazier to fight DUI charge

Few details available on principal's arrest

  • Follow Crime & courts

Glenn Hills High School Principal Dr. Wayne Frazier, a high-profile Richmond County administrator and husband of state Rep. Gloria Frazier, said Monday that he'll challenge a DUI charge against him.

Wayne Frazier left Tubman Middle School to be principal at Glenn Hills this year.

With the help of an attorney, Frazier said, when the case goes to court "I believe everything will be hopefully dropped."

Frazier was arrested on misdemeanor DUI and failure to maintain lane charges about 11:30 p.m. Thursday on Deans Bridge Road at Brentway Drive.

Few details were available Monday because only a ticket had been filed with the solicitor's office. Acting State Court Solicitor P.J. Campanaro said that her office's files involving the case would not be made public while the case is being prosecuted.

Richmond County sheriff's Maj. Richard Weaver said Frazier refused to take a Breathalyzer test -- which involves a motorist blowing into a hand-held device that measures blood-alcohol content.

In Georgia, refusing to the test results in arrest. Georgia Department of Driver Services spokeswoman Susan Sports said a driver who refuses the test also has his license suspended for 12 months.

Until he goes to court, Frazier said, he's unable to go into the specifics of the case. "I just hate this happened at this time because of so many positive things we have done in the school," he said. "I just feel that the community and my students will feel I've kind of let them down, and my family."

Frazier, who took over this year at Glenn Hills after leading Tubman Middle, said he also regrets that the arrest happened so close to Glenn Hills' graduation, which is Wednesday.

Some Richmond County school board members said Monday that they were surprised to hear about the arrest, noting that Frazier has become known for turning around struggling schools, being particularly skilled at discipline and making students feel that teachers and administrators care for them.

"I've been a very big supporter of Dr. Frazier," said board member Frank Dolan. "I think he's done an excellent job in each of the schools we've sent him to. ... I'm not sure what this will do for his career path. ... I do hate to hear it. I think it's very unfortunate."

Board member Jack Padgett, who agreed with Dolan, said Frazier had applied to be the school system's superintendent three years ago when Dr. Dana Bedden was selected, and he said his name had been floated as the district looks for a replacement when Bedden leaves June 18.

"His name has been tossed about quite a bit, more by the public than the board members," Padgett said, but "I certainly think this (the arrest) would be a setback."

Gary Walker, the director of the Georgia Professional Standards Commissions' Ethics Division, said a misdemeanor DUI doesn't rise to the level of what it investigates, meaning that if convicted Frazier wouldn't lose his state accreditation to teach.

Dolan said he wasn't sure what the school system's policy is concerning employees who are charged with DUI, noting that the board might have to consult with its attorney, Pete Fletcher. Fletcher said he couldn't discuss personnel matters.

Padgett said that the board likely wouldn't get involved and that it's probably an administrative decision. A message left for Bedden on Monday wasn't immediately returned.

Who said anything about

Who said anything about contempt for service members?

I do have contempt, however, for people that try to snow me with BS.

Btw, let me point out to you that, legally, if you were involved with "research" while working on active duty, the secret isn't yours- but belongs to the Department of Defense.

Wonder why your breakthrough research has never been implemented, you know?

If it was so important, why weren't you on full-time active duty?

Don't waste your time trying to bs me. I'm an Army brat.

"There are several routes of

"There are several routes of metabolism of ethyl alcohol in the body. The major pathways involve the liver and in particular the oxidation of ethyl alcohol by alcohol dehydrogenase (ADH).
As mentioned above perhaps the major route of metabolism of ethyl alcohol is its oxidation in the liver catalyzed by the cytosolic enzyme alcohol dehydrogenase (ADH). It catalyzes the following reaction:

CH3CH2OH + NAD+ -> CH3CHO + NADH + H+.

The second step of ethanol metabolism is catalyzed by acetaldehyde dehydrogenase. This enzyme converts acetaldehyde to acetic acid, which is a normal metabolite in humans and hence is non toxic.

Another system in the liver which oxidizes ethanol via the enzyme cytochrome P450IIE1 (CYP2E1) is called the MEOS system. The reaction catalyzed by MEOS is:

CH3CH2OH + NADPH + O2 -> CH3CHO + NADP+ + H2O.

Though of minor significance in comparison to ADH metabolism of ethanol, the MEOS system seems to play an increasingly important role at higher concentrations of ethanol. It is not surprising that there are variations in the P450E1 enzyme which lead to differences in the rate of ethanol metabolism."

This is REAL SCIENCE that says
"It is not surprising that there are variations in the P450E1 enzyme which lead to differences in the rate of ethanol metabolism."

I know some here think there is no way to change

"the rate of ethanol metabolism"

Real Science has determined these are the facts...

"It is not surprising that there are variations in the P450E1 enzyme which lead to differences in the rate of ethanol metabolism."

Sheesh. All some beleive about science is the debunked evolution religion part where they say you came from apes. But when it comes to scientifically repeatable direct observation science some here are ignorant but "THEY KNOW THEY CAME FROM APES". The realy bad thing is i learned most of this up north and then came back home, down here. So Corgimom admitting that she is from up north yet still unwilling to learn anything new IS sad. Science though hindered by the evolution religion cult mascrading as science, still marches on.

Frazier may have had a drink. IF he had been patient enough he could have avoided all this. If he had been knowledgeable enough he would not be in this fix now. Knowledge is STILL power no matter what the naysayers say.. Hint. These things are much more readily available than they were in 1991 when i did my studies. The bad thing is i'll be slandered by corgimom & others who think they came form apes from now on here untill they look it up & find out i was right all along but i do not expect an apology. I'll be slandered because someone lost a debate. That's how it goes. After over 40 yrs of studying REAL facts that's just how it is.

Mr. Frazier purposely tried
Unpublished

Mr. Frazier purposely tried to sabotage any DUI charges by refusing to take the breath test. There really is no reason to do that unless you KNOW you will blow badly. He owed it to other drivers to follow the law and blow when pulled over. It's common knowledge that lawyers all say if there is any question as to your driving impairment "DO NOT BLOW" . Welll he didn't blow which now gives him a chance to challenge the charges for lack of evidence or plea bargain down to reckless driving. Inasmuch as he's done a great good for the third world schools he's been asked to get under control, he now sets a terrible role model for his students.
Look for a "grease job" because of he and his "family" connections or a plea bargain.
Frazier, why didn't you just do the right thing?

On a side note, Frazier isn't

On a side note, Frazier isn't that great anyway. He got Tubman to passing "Safe Harbor" AYP (kinda like an almost but not quite, but we'll give it to you anyway). He seemed to spend more time singing Barney songs over the intercom than dealing with all of the illegal activities that went on a daily basis at Glenn Hills. Some of his buttkissers from Tubman were awarded "instructional coach" positions at Glenn Hills, and some of these seemed functionally literate at best, and complete liars at worst. Frazier has always been "smoke and mirrors." Just ask some of those unfortunate enough to have worked for him at Bungalow Road. The man is a joke. And, now he's a devious, lying joke. He plays favorites, hugs high school girls, children (some of whom, along with their parents, are not very happy with that). The man has certainly never deserved the accolades he has received, and often talked about his "spot," although that one was downtown, so I guess 706 is his new spot. Gloria should whip his butt.

Driving drunk is not

Driving drunk is not positive. Sure you will try to worm your way out of the charge. I'm sure that had you have not been drunk no-one would have stopped you. Teach those students how to blame it on the man.

Sad to see Mr. Frazier in
Unpublished

Sad to see Mr. Frazier in this situation. He is human, if he made a mistake let him be judged in court. I am surprised Justus has not turned this into the normal great country eh thread. We are all human. Seems Mr. Frazier takes his job to heart and takes a lot of pride in it, that is obvious by what he has managed to accomplish. Let's not turn this hard working man's mistake into a circus, I am sure the guilt and self beating he is suffering will be tougher than any other punishment that he will likely have to deal with.
Mr. Frazier, hang in there buddy, this too will pass, learn from it and emerge stronger.

Several years ago it was made

Several years ago it was made a law that if a teacher received a DUI...not only would the teacher lose their job but their Ga. certification would be removed. Now Pete Fletcher SHOULD know that since he is a lawyer for the school board.

And this is the "cream of the crop" that the black community is touting for the superintendent position. By all reasoning that our black officials have presented in recent years, only a white person should be considered for the position. But wait, that would be discrimination and racist.

Still no comment from Bedden. His "chosen one" has wet the bed, so as a lame duck, Bedden will just ride off to Texas. Pathetic.

What missing money? By the

What missing money? By the way, Frazier was pathetic on the news at the graduation. He said he has enjoyed positive public opinion, and hopes to continue to do so. The positive public opinion came from people who have never met him, based on the Chronicle fluff pieces on him, and the undeserved unwavering support from King Bedden. It certainly isn't from those who have had the displeasure of working for him, or from the majority of the children or their parents. Good job by Frazier handpicking one kid for the news to interview who said Frazier had turned him around. Pleeeeze! Let the light shine on the TRUTH!

With all your comments, here

With all your comments, here is what's going to happen. Reduced charge to "Reckles Driving". Therefore he will have to pay a fine and attend DUI school. Case closed! Life goes on. Also as I tell my daughter, PLEASE learn from others mistakes and there is plenty to learn from in the world and in your area. You do not have to exprience them yourself as it will cost you money and time.
