A Grovetown man died Monday evening when he lost control of his car and wrecked on Cobbham Road in Appling.

Eric Franklin Dunn, 26, of Barbara Street, was traveling north in a Kia Sephia just after 7 p.m., according to a Columbia County Sheriff's Office incident report.

The vehicle careened across oncoming lanes onto the shoulder. It struck a street sign and the drivers side struck a tree, according to the report.

Dunn was taken to Doctors Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to the report. He was not wearing a seat belt.

Dunn's passenger, Rickey Andra Cullars, 30, of Story Drive in Appling, was uninjured, according to deputies.

Police believe alcohol was involved and that Dunn was driving too fast, the report stated.
