AUSTELL, Ga. - A Douglasville man was convicted Wednesday of stabbing and beating his 16-year-old girlfriend to death after she confided she was pregnant and wanted to keep the baby.
It took a Cobb County jury about five hours of deliberation to find 20-year-old Matthew Frederick Wilkins guilty in the Jan. 19, 2008, slaying of Marlisa Wells.
Prosecutors say Wilkins cornered his girlfriend in a basement bathroom, where he stabbed her repeatedly, slammed her head into a toilet tank and drove a fork into her back.
The girl's grandparents found Wells dead in their home after returning from a friend's funeral.
Wells believed she was pregnant at the time of her death. However, an autopsy revealed she was not.
To all the people who send their children to private school because "God is no longer in our public schools" - "Prosecutors said Wilkins and Wells met while attending Christian Ministries Academy in Marietta"
Corgi, yeah, what's your point? Does this mean God is in the public schools?
Wow. That was so unnecessary. Whether or not God is in a certain school has nothing to do with this. It's up to the individual to allow the Lord Jesus to become their savior. Obviously, this man was very far away from Jesus and that's sad. I pray that he finds Him very soon, asks Jesus into his heart and that God heals him and forgives him of this sin he has committed. I also am praying for the girls family that God comforts them and lifts them up. This is so sad and was unnecessary. God is everywhere.
No it means that just because you child is in private school doesn't mean they are safe.
Amen to that BBSouth, our children are not safe anywhere these days, we just have to pray that God will keep them safe wherever they are.
I am sure he will find "jailhouse religion". They all seem to. The fact is that this man needs more than religion. He killed his 16 year old girlfriend because she said she was pregnant. In his warped thinking process, this was supposed to take care of the problem. He would really have to come to his senses to feel remorse for what he has done.
The Bible says that the kingdom of God is within you, beside you, around you, and everywhere. Mere mortals cannot "put" the Lord of All anywhere, nor can mere mortals "take" Him out of anyplace.
After he's convicted, he will likely be back on the streets in seven to ten years. Georgia's prisons are full, and for every one sent to prison another has to be released to make room. When he convinces the parole board that he has gotten jailhouse religion (as maninthemirror called it), he will be released early.
Wow I hope this guy rots. First of all, he was raping a 16 year old girl no matter how you look at it. Then, she thought she was pregnant, and he kills her? Why? I'll bet it's because he was afraid he would go to jail.
If GA prisons are full, then they should release those with victimless crimes first. ESPECIALLY those with possession of marijuana charges.
corgimom, I didn't see this in the article: "Prosecutors said Wilkins and Wells met while attending Christian Ministries Academy in Marietta". Where does this info come from?
In the words of David Lee Roth..."Lost control, lost control." Our world is becoming more lost every day...the love of many will wax cold and this is simply another confirmation that Jesus is heading back soon.
Even if this scumbag thought his girlfriend was pregnant he should have tried to prevent it by wearing "perhaps" something to prevent it. It takes two to make a baby. Don't worry he will rot in hell.
Private school helps, Christian school helps even more, but the evil resident in our hearts leads some people to things like this and can never be 100% controlled. Horrible story.
Wow. I don't understand people sometimes, what would make someone react like this? I hope that people like this can find help. Don't ever let girls get to you like this.

Hi Associated Press,
This is very cruel incident. Parents should have guided their children well. This is caused by having sex before marriage. Many young people are indulge in sexual act and been so curious about it without knowing the risk of their action.
This should be an alarm to the government to be firm in implementing good values in schools and for parents to be reminded of their responsibilities to their children. Parents should at all time make sure that their children are in the right direction.
