Augusta woman charged in fatal domestic shooting at Olde Town gas station

An Augusta man was fatally shot in a domestic dispute Sunday morning at the Olde Town BP gas station at 443 Broad St.

William Lewis Scott, 50, of Augusta, was shot once in the head in the parking lot at about 9:45 a.m. He was rushed to Medical College of Georgia Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 10:26 a.m., according to Richmond County Deputy Coroner Johnny McDonald.

Sheriff's Investigator Sean Cochran said Windy Renee Scott, 42, of the 100 block of Fox Trace Drive, was charged with murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime. She was being held at the Richmond County jail.

William and Windy Scott have two children together but, though they have the same last name, have never been married, Cochran said. Investigators learned the two have not lived together for years and that there was a history of violence in their relationship.

Cochran said the fight had escalated throughout the day, with Windy Scott following William Scott from his job at Thermal Ceramics to the gas station in an attempt to discuss their relationship.

The victim's body will be sent this morning to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Crime Lab in Atlanta, where an autopsy will be conducted, McDonald said.
