Aiken woman sentenced in murder plot

AIKEN - An Aiken County woman was sentenced to seven years in prison today for paying a man to kill her estranged husband and his son.

U.S. District Judge Margaret B. Seymour sentenced Judy W. Dickson, 42, of Salley, in the murder-for-hire plot, Acting U.S. Attorney Kevin McDonald said in an e-mail.

Dickson plead guilty to paying her boyfriend to burn down the Shallotte, N.C., home of Raymond Dickson, and his son, Ryan Dickson, as they slept.

She was concerned about her divorce settlement, and wanted to benefit from her husband's life insurance policy, prosecutors said.

She agreed to pay boyfriend David Huto a large sum of money in May to carry out the plot, but he instead alerted Mr. Dickson and the FBI.

Wiretaps recorded Mrs. Dickson discussing setting the crawl space of Mr. Dickson's home ablaze with pine straw and gasoline.
