Shooting at Bon Air wounds at least one

  • Follow Crime & courts

Police were called to the Bon Air Apartments on Walton Way late Friday night after at least one person was shot at a party there.

According to a Richmond County sheriff's report, a number of people were in the parking lot when the officer arrived at the scene shortly after 11 p.m. The officer then saw four people, who fired three to five more shots in an unknown direction after seeing the officer.

The officer was unable to locate them after the shots were fired.

Witnesses said one victim, a 22-year-old man, had been taken to the Medical College of Georgia Hospital, the report said.

The officer was also told that a man came into the party and fired two or the three times at the DJ. He then fired a number of shots into the ceiling.

The shooter was described as black, 17 to 25 years old, about 5 feet 6 inches to 5 feet 10 inches tall  and weighing between 160 and 180 pounds. He had dreadlocks to the shoulder or close to the shoulders, brown eyes and was wearing a light brown Carhart jacket and light blue jeans.

Police are also seeking another black man, 18 to 25 years old and about 5 feet 8 inches to 5 feet 11 inches tall. He was wearing a Camo jacket.

No information on the identity of the victim or victims or their condition was available.

Just remember the sheriff

Just remember the sheriff said not to worry, we don't have a serious gang problem in rivercity. Probably just kids having a disagreement. Is the Bon-air a section 8 property now, it sure seems so. I would be amazed that it is because it probably dosen't come up to the high standards demanded of section 8 property and further there are no yards for the pit bulls to keep the drug cops at bay.

Augusta is a mess, but our

Augusta is a mess, but our mayor just has his head in the sand. For Augusta to ever improve, we have to be realsitic about the real problems that do exist, instead of pretending they don't and simply seeing what we want to see.

The bon Air is a govt.

The bon Air is a govt. subsidized low income housing unit. Most of the people there are over 65 or disabled. What the heck was going on with a party there of people that young ? Perhaps it's time to investigate who is allowed to stay there again....The elderly there cannot protect themselves from younger people and should not be held prisoner at night....The place already looks like a third world country...perhaps we need intervention from our boy president there.....

Same old same old. Only

Same old same old. Only difference is that we are now using the more politically correct term "gangs" to blame for the crime and violence. Don't let them throw you off with all this gang talk. It's still the same old thugs shooting, robbing, and dealing drugs. As for all of this gang talk, well, if you get enough wild animals in one area they will eventually start running in packs.

I heard the place is a dump.

I heard the place is a dump. Sounds like Augusta's finest needs to swing by there more often.

Put it this way, the Bon Air

Put it this way, the Bon Air has reserved parking spots right next to the main door for RCSO. The handicapped spots are a little further away.

Irish you are correct. But as

Irish you are correct. But as I have stated many times on here, these assistance programs do not investigate any of these people and their situations, even when reported. I think they are scared, people like this might kill you over taking away the freebies they don't deserve, after all if they had any morals they wouldnt' be scamming the system in the first place.

Autumn Leaves--good post that

Autumn Leaves--good post that was in the paper! I don't know why posters stop short of stating where the blame for the current wave of gang related activity lies...it lies directly at the feet of the SHERIFF. The Sheriff has done absolutely nothing in the face of the rising crime rate directly related to gangs. The Sheriff has done nothing to get his employees out of the sickest building in the Southeast for the past ten years. Internal problems at the Sheriff's Department have never been worse. And now three more deputies have been seriously injuried because inmates were GAMBLING IN JAIL.

The worst part about living

The worst part about living in a subsidy city is that this no longer surprises anyone. Has the mayor or county council made any comment concerning this mess?

The mayor is too busy posting

The mayor is too busy posting on facebook or playing an extra in movies to care or do anything. Do we really want 4 more years of this? I don't. I know the Boardmans bought him the position.. I guess to give him a hobby.

Really what can the mayor or

Really what can the mayor or sheriff do? If I decide I am going to shoot up a party who really can stop me. The sheriff can arrest me after the fact but what can really be done? People need to decide that they are not going to let their communities be run over with drugs and crime. People make the decision to commit a crime. In certain parts of the city (Cherry Tree Crossing) crime is accepted and is a way of life. The fault lies on the court system who keeps kicking these jokers back out on the streets after a short jail stint!!!

hey, I have lived in the bon

hey, I have lived in the bon air for 14 years. It is not a third world country, it is not a mental hospital. As residents, we have no control over who rents the ballroom. Please do not post things that are negative and that you have no knowledge. We try hard to improve our lives. We work, go to school and volunteer within our community. Speak not of what you do not know. Do we have some bad apples in our community yes, But I ask are there a few bad apples in your neighborhood?
