A 28-year-old man is facing burglary charges in a break-in on Ansley Court in Augusta.
Maurice Alton Williams, of the 100 block of Avondale Drive, was arrested about 11:40 a.m. Friday. A resident told police she saw a man ring her doorbell. The woman said she then heard a loud noise and saw the man breaking a window. She left her house and called police.
Mr. Williams has been charged with burglary and criminal attempt to commit a burglary, according to a Richmond County jailer. He is also facing a parole violation.
Five teens admit they threw eggs at cars
Police said they arrested five teenagers who were throwing eggs at cars parked at North Augusta High School late Friday.
According to the North Augusta Department of Public Safety, officers were called to the school about 10 p.m. and stopped a tan SUV. The teens admitted to the vandalism and were charged with malicious injury to personal property. They were later released to a parent or guardian.
Arrested were Chandler Minton Moody, 18, of the 4400 block of Dogwood Way, Evans; Brian Taylor Smith and Stefan Hunter Smith, both 17, of the 700 block of Sage Court, North Augusta; Mitchell Kyle O'Neal, 19, of the 3800 block of Medinah Court, Martinez; and Kent Michael Gilman, 17, of the 200 block of Blue Herron Lane, North Augusta.
Homeowner suffers burns in fire in Aiken
A woman was severely burned in a house fire Saturday afternoon on Roslyn Circle in Aiken.
According to Aiken Department of Public Safety Lt. David Turno, the woman's name and condition have not been released. She was "burned pretty severely" and was taken to the Joseph M. Still Burn Center at Doctors Hospital, Lt. Turno said.
He said the victim does not live at the home, but she is the property owner and was at the house cleaning. The home was damaged significantly, he said.
Public safety officials are calling the fire "unintentional" and are not yet sure of the exact cause, Lt. Turno said.
Homeless man, 44, found dead in vehicle
A homeless man was found dead Sunday in an abandoned vehicle at a home on Pollard Drive in Augusta.
According to Richmond County Deputy Coroner Johnny McDonald, the body of 44-year-old Reginald Leon Smith was discovered about 12:30 p.m. inside a Ford Explorer. Mr. Smith's body was covered in a blanket and it was determined that he died of natural causes. No foul play is suspected, Mr. McDonald said.
Richmond County sheriff's Investigator Charles Mulherin said the homeowner told investigators he knew Mr. Smith and had let him sleep in the vehicle.
