Shopgirl: New magazine and a great Banjo-B-Que lineup

WHAT’S NEW

I love finding new blogs and publications. Trouvé is a new magazine launched by Amanda Marko, an Aiken resident and graphic designer.

It highlights all things creative, from gallery owners to coffee shops and artists. Since Amanda is in Aiken, the magazine has a lot of pieces on regional people and places (Greenville, S.C., and St. Augustine, Fla.), but also gets around to other cities including Seattle and Philadelphia.

Read the first issue at www.trouvemag.com, and get excited about the second issue coming out soon. You can also find it on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook.

WHAT’S TRENDY

The Papa Joe’s Banjo-B-Que Bluegrass Festival just announced the headliners for its fifth annual weekend, and it’s none other than The Avett Brothers and Old Crow Medicine Show.

It’s exciting to see Augusta and this area in general become a market that can support currently trending groups, and it’s important for us to support them when they come to town.

The Banjo-B-Que is a great weekend regardless of who’s playing, but this year takes the cake. Get your tickets for the Memorial Day weekend festival at www.banjobque.com.

WHAT’S AFFORDABLE

Rihanna made more than $43 million last year, but in a recent piece in Vogue magazine she said that she still gets all of her jewelry from Claire’s. That’s right – the mall accessories store where you can buy anything from fake glasses to rhinestone tiaras.

While I don’t think I’d stick with Claire’s jewelry if I was an international pop star, RiRi has a point. Stores like Claire’s, Forever 21, Charming Charlie and the like give you all the fun of flashy accessories with none of the risk that “the real thing” brings.
