The etsy seller silversurfer can take a small bit of handwriting and turn it into jewelry.

I found a super-neat Etsy seller this week who will take a handwriting sample and engrave it onto a silver pendant. Most of her customers get a bit from an old letter from someone special, , like “Much love, Dad,” and use it as a neat memorial. The shop is called “surfingsilver” and prices range from about $120 to $200. I love how it takes something so small and personal and turns it into something you can wear everyday.

She is sold out for Mother’s Day but will start taking more orders in the next few weeks. Find her at www.etsy.com/shop/surfingsilver.

WHAT’S TRENDY

Spring is getting here, and one of the greatest events here during this time of year is the Aiken Triple Crown. The first leg is the Aiken Trials, a race for horses new to the scene, on March 16. The Trials makes for a low-key day, with the best tailgating you’ll find from Aiken’s equestrian lovers and a chance to see a rising star in the racing world.

Tickets are only $10 in advance, but if you want to do it in style and let someone else worry about the picnic, you can get tickets for the Winners Circle Pavilion Tent party.

The two events that complete the Aiken Triple Crown are the Aiken Steeplechase and the Aiken Pacers and Polo competition, on March 23 and 30, respectively. Get more information at www.aikentrainingtrack.com.

WHAT’S NEW

If you enjoyed shopping at Village in Surrey Center, I think you’ll love one., the new store opening soon from native Augustan Stacey Haskins Garner. Stacey ran Village for years, and it’s exciting to see her open up her own store.

She’s going to have brands including Trina Turk, Rebecca Taylor, tibi, Ella Moss and 7 For All Mankind and expects to open before Easter.

If her launch Web site and logo are any indication, the store will be a great addition to Augusta shopping. I love the bright colors and modern edge her branding has so far. Check it out on Facebook or at www.shoponeaugusta.com.
