A few weeks ago I wrote about the to-be-released iPhone 5 and what features it was rumored to have. Well, the phone debuted Sept. 12, and the buzz was close to the truth.

The iPhone 5’s screen is indeed larger, 4-inches diagonally, and the phone has faster processing capabilities and a better camera.

Apple also announced the new EarPods, the redesigned earphones that are supposedly designed “according to the geometry of the ear.” They are available in the Apple store for $29.

As with every advancement, there have been hiccups. Big-name apps, including Facebook and Instagram, took until this week to be updated for the larger screen, and the new Maps app has gotten a lot of attention for being plain wrong.

WHAT’S TRENDY

I’m a huge fan of the smaller sunglasses frames that seem to be slowly becoming the majority of what’s out there right now.

Sure, I’ll keep a big Jackie O pair for bad face days, but smaller frames such as Moscot’s Lemtosh, TOMS Beachmaster or the classic Ray-Ban Clubmaster tend to flatter just about every face. Plus, we get to still actually see your face instead of guessing who that is behind the big J-Lo aviators.

For whatever reason, it’s more difficult to find cheap sunglasses that aren’t gigantic, so be prepared to splurge a little for a good winter pair.

WHAT’S AFFORDABLE

Augusta Magazine’s Best of Augusta celebration is Oct. 16, and if you buy your tickets ahead of time they are only $20, a $5 savings over the price at the door.
