Free Medicine, Birthday Meals

  • Follow Local Business

Dear Readers: I am leaving The Augusta Chronicle to accept another job opportunity, but I wanted to thank all of the loyal readers of The Pinch for the privilege of helping you to save money during such difficult economic times.

I have learned so much through writing this column, and I hope that I was able to help you keep some of your hard-earned dollars in your pocket and establish some better financial habits along the way.

People love free stuff, so I’m going to end my column with a list of freebies, from medications to places to find free food on your birthday.

FREE MEDICATIONS AT PUBLIX: Publix offers some of the most-often prescribed medications free of charge. Customers can drop off their prescription and get the generic medications they need for free, according to the store’s Web site.

Customers can get a free 30-day supply of Lisinopril, an ACE inhibitor that is used to treat high blood pressure, certain heart conditions, diabetes and certain chronic kidney conditions. They can get a maximum of 30 days supply (up to 60 tablets). Lisinopril-HCTZ combination products are excluded.

Publix also offers up to a free 14-day supply of the following generic oral antibiotics: Amoxicillin, Ampicillin, Cephalexin (capsules and suspension only), Sulfamethoxazole/Trimethoprim (SMZ-TMP), Ciprofloxacin (excluding Ciprofloxacin XR), Penicillin VK and Doxycycline Hyclate (capsules only).

In addition, Publix shoppers can get free Metformin as part of the Publix Pharmacy Diabetes Management System. They will receive up to a 30-day supply (90 tablets) of generic immediate-release metformin (500mg, 850 mg, and 1000 mg).

BIRTHDAY FREEBIES: It’s possible to get a free meal on your birthday at several local restaurants. Here are a few:

Red Robin: Get a birth-day burger, plus rewards throughout the year, upon registering with the Red Robin eClub.

TGI Friday’s: When patrons sign up for TGI Friday’s Give Me More Stripes guest recognition program, they will receive a dessert during their birthday month with the purchase of an entree.

Applebee’s: Get a birthday special when you sign up for Applebee’s e-mail list.

Bonefish Grill: Sign up for Bonefish Grill’s membership club and receive a gift on your special day.

Denny’s: Receive a Grand Slam when you dine at Denny’s on your birthday.

Carrabba’s Italian Grill: Sign up for Carrabba’s Italian Grill’s Amici Club and receive offers for complimentary items, information about gift card giveaways and more.
