The Pinch: Find back-to-school savings at local retailers

The new school year is just around the corner, and it’s time to start hunting for bargains. Shoppers can already find back-to-school deals at several local retailers.


KMART STORE CLOSING SALE: Kmart at 3830 Washington Road is going out of business, and parents can find school and office supplies 25 percent off. Shoes and apparel for children and adults are 20 percent off.

Merchandise throughout the store is 10 to 30 percent off, and all jewelry is 50 to 70 percent off. Here are other savings:

30 percent off: Pet items

25 percent off: Video game software and outdoor furniture

20 percent off: Bedding, shower curtains, bathroom accessories, towels, vitamins, party items, gift bags, greeting cards, facial items, toys, CDs, TV accessories, bicycles, luggage, sporting equipment, infant furniture and baby sleepwear

10 Percent Off: Home appliances, baby items (diapers, food and clothing), medical items, lotion, toothbrushes, paper towels, toilet paper, movies, video game hardware, TVs, candy/food and pet food

25 PERCENT OFF AT BANANA REPUBLIC: On Tuesday, Banana Republic customers who donate school supplies that day at the store will receive 25 percent off a $100 purchase. All school supplies will be donated to the Boys & Girls Clubs of the CSRA. The school-supply drive will last through Aug. 4. Banana Republic is at Augusta Mall.

FREQUENT SHOPPER PROGRAM: School Days Supply Co. Inc. at 3141 Washington Road has a frequent- shopper program to reward loyal customers. For every frequent-shopper card completed, the customer will receive a $20 coupon. Red tag, lamination, gift certificates and sales tax are not included.

Customers receive credit for purchases that are a minimum of $5, in $5, $10 and $20 increments.

EDUCATION DISCOUNT: At PeachMac, educators and college students can receive savings through education pricing and instant rebates. With the purchase of a new Mac at education pricing, which saves them up to $200, customers will get a $50 instant rebate to use toward anything else in the store.

With the purchase of a new iPad at education pricing, shoppers will get a $25 instant rebate to use on a new case or other products.

To qualify for the Back to School Instant Rebate offer and get education pricing on a Mac, the shopper must be a college student, student accepted to a college, parent buying for a college student or faculty or staff member from any grade level. The offer ends Sept. 21.

COLLEGE STUDENT DISCOUNT: Through July 31, college students can get 20 percent off their total purchase at Jo-Ann Fabric and Craft Stores. This includes regular, sale-priced and clearance items. Some exclusions apply.

BACK-TO-SCHOOL FESTIVAL: The Columbia County Back-to-School Festival will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. July 28 at Evans Middle School, 4785 Hereford Farm Road. For more information, call (706) 312-7192.

Today’s Augusta Chronicle has $339.54 in coupons. This includes $10 at Sears, $36.50 at Publix, $256.04 in Smart Source, $4 at Rite Aid, $3 at Staples, $25 at Target and $4 in Parade.

The Parade insert has a coupon to buy one six piece Bites Combo from KFC and get one free. It expires July 29.
