The Polaroid Z2300 instantly prints digital photos and is available for pre-order. It comes in black or white.

A downside to the digital world we live in is that few of us print even a fraction as many photographs as we did in the film days. Unless you faithfully back up your computers, a crash could mean the loss of thousands of photos and as many memories.

Polaroid has released the Z2300 for pre-order, an instant digital camera that couples the permanence of digital images with the tangible charm of printed photos.

The camera uses Zink printing papers to print off your images, which use heat to develop the photo instead of ink. It has a 10-megapixel sensor and can capture and print off photos in less than a minute. Its 3-inch LCD display shows you what you’re photographing, and gives you a preview of the photo before printing. You can even do some limited editing through the camera.

The camera comes in black and white exteriors, and is $160. Paper starts at $15 for 30 sheets.

WHAT’S TRENDY

Summer brings out light fabrics and casual styles, but the right shoes can dress those old standbys up for anything.

A good pair of summer shoes should be able to go from day to night if necessary, keep your toes cool and have a platform heel to keep you from sinking into the grass at an outdoor function.

Target has a cute selection of summer sandals this year, and my favorite is an orange and brown strappy number called Pollie. They cost $29.99 and have a rope-wrapped wedge heel that will hide wear and tear very well. A little more pricey, Banana Republic’s Vierra comes in black, red and blue and is $79. These have wide braided cotton straps and a four-inch heel. Land’s End has an ankle strap wedge that comes in blue chambray, black and tan suede and is the perfect dainty touch for a barbecue or when you need to quickly dress up some shorts. The Brinton burlap-wrapped wedge was recently marked down to $39.99.

WHAT’S AFFORDABLE

Turner Classic Movies is presenting a special event to celebrate the 60th anniversary of Singin’ in the Rain, one of everyone’s favorite old movies.

The event will take place Thursday, July 12, at Regal Augusta Exchange Stadium 20, one of a few select locations, and will kick off with a showing of an interview with Debbie Reynolds about working on the movie, and working with stars Gene Kelly and Donald O’Connor.

Singin’ in the Rain will be shown on the big screen after the interview.

The film was nominated for two Academy Awards and is the No. 1 musical on the American Film Institute’s list of the 25 Greatest Movie Musicals.

The showing starts at 7 p.m. and tickets are $12.50. Go to www.fandango.com for more information.
