Steve Jobs' work made technology cool. After his death Oct. 5, his quotes circulated online, many urging people to be brave enough to contribute to the world.

Now is a great time to stock up on fall staples including long-sleeved T-shirts, sweaters and ballet flats. Stores like Target, Old Navy, Gap and other standard stores are running specials on things you’ll want to get for the upcoming season.

Target is running some online sales that help you save money by sitting on your couch – free shipping for orders over $50, and tees up to half off. Old Navy’s Web site is selling dresses up to 50 percent off, and even though some are a little summery, you can layer them with cardigans and leggings for a pretty look.

WHAT’S NEW

Augusta’s popular gift and home décor shop Cudos! is expanding to Columbia County. The new store, Cudos2U, opens Monday in the Evans Town Center on North Belair Road.

Cudos2U will offer a full florist shop and a jewelry counter with Pandora and other lines. I went by last week to get a sneak peek, and it looks like it will be a great resource for Columbia County shoppers, and the rest of the area.

WHAT’S CREATIVE

It was amazing to see the global reaction to last week’s news of Apple CEO Steve Jobs’ death. That he was a pioneer, a visionary and an icon was said over and over again, but somehow the eulogies never sounded trite.

Jobs’ creations dominate hip technology and have spurred creative technological design immeasurably. It will be interesting to see how the company survives without him.

There were several inspiring quotes that were floating around the Internet in the wake of his death, but the over-arching theme was that we all have something to contribute to our world, if we’re only brave enough to figure out what it is.

“Your time is limited,” he is quoted as saying. “Don’t waste it living someone else’s life.”
