Mark Newton expects to start construction this month on his third MedNow Urgent Care center at 2851 Washington Road, on the corner of Sherwood Drive. In June, Newton purchased the nearly acre parcel, which formerly housed a Shell gas station, and said the old underground tanks have been removed.

The new 7,500-square-foot center in Augusta will include digital X-ray equipment and an on-site laboratory and pharmacy. The center will provide care for patients on a walk-in basis and will also offer services for occupational medicine and workers compensation.

The location will staff about 10 employees and at least three physicians. It should be completed by December or January, Newton said.

“Now, more and more patients are really looking at their copays, their annual deductibles, their annual out-of-pocket, so because of that, people are looking at the most efficient way they can get immediate care or unscheduled care,” Newton said.
The busy stretch of Washington Road between Interstate 20 and Alexander Drive was attractive for its high traffic count, said Newton, adding that the project represents a multimillion dollar investment.

“It’s a growing area that’s convenient for a lot of people,” said Newton, also medical director for the emergency department at Doctors Hospital.

In 2009, Newton opened his first MedNow location in Evans and added a second center in south Augusta in 2013. Newton said he’s already looking for a fourth site near Grovetown to open within the next 12 to 18 months.

“It seems to be meeting a need, so we’re trying to make sure we, in a rational and a wise way, expand,” he said.

Igr, if the address in the article is correct

this MedNow is going where Pho Bac/Crown Gas was located. I think another chicken fast food joint is going where the Shell Station at I20 was located.

Hilarious!!!!

Gagecreed/Pu239...

The link you posted is from May 2014 and were in July.. I just recently posted the Mednow facility was replacing the proposed strip center featuring Pho Bac....

PDQ is building their second location(Evans at Washington/North Belair)in West Augusta at 2999 Washington road(former Circle K) next to I-20..

The residents of West Augusta need to demand new greenspace, sidewalks, landscaping, and bike lanes along Washington road. Mixed use developments and new urbanism provides the best options to create smart growth. The city should purchase the Venus Adonis, New Peking, and Arbys in order to build a park/green space...

The strip center was proposed

The strip center was proposed before the Mednow facility became reality.

I would actually prefer for the city to construct bike paths instead of bike lanes along Washington road..
