Letters from the Charlotte, N.C.-based bank were sent out in early February informing customers of the center at 315 Edgefield Road in Belvedere that the office would close May 16, said Bank of America spokesman Matthew Daily.

“The closure is the result of the changing behaviors of customers as they use online more regularly and mobile banking,” he said.

Daily said that another Bank of America branch is just two miles away.

Though Daily wouldn’t disclose the number of employees working at the bank, he said the company works with associates to find them jobs within the organization.

Daily added there were no additional bank closures on the immediate horizon for the Augusta metro area.
