GRU expanding medical center on West Wheeler Parkway

  • Follow Local Business

An expansion is underway at Georgia Regents University’s medical clinic on West Wheeler Parkway.

A 34,000-square-foot addition at 1200 West Wheeler Parkway will bring added patient care and administrative offices in the two-story medical center, which is housed by GRU Orthopaedic Associates. Several clinics within Georgia Regents Medical Associates will be consolidated in the new facility, said GRU spokeswoman Denise Parrish.

Parrish said the center will provide ambulatory-care teaching opportunities for certain primary and specialty care services, along with rehabilitative programs. The specific clinical services to be offered at the facility will be determined later.

The project is expected to be finished in July.

It would be nice if they had a Family Medicine office there

Then perhaps people would have the ability to see their own physician instead of being shuffled around among students, residents, PAs and assorted attendings, never seeing the same doctor often enough--not even one's own primary care provider--so that a provider treating someone for an acute illness has any real idea about the patient beyond some notes in Powerchart.

There are some really fine physicians in MCG Family Medicine. Unfortunately, they're all but hamstrung by the new overlords who have swooped in and undone half a century of good work building a patient care operation.
