After undertaking a four-month remodeling on the dated building at 1831 Walton Way, Wayne Lanier opened his family-owned market in the space previously occupied by Teresa’s Mexican Restaurant.

The shop, once run by Lanier’s older brothers, had been on Deans Bridge Road for more than 40 years before closing in 2011.

The new site near 15th Street is ideal, Lanier said, because of little competition nearby and its proximity to Augusta’s hospitals and downtown businesses.

The market carries beef, pork, chicken and fish packages, and an assortment of speciality meats such as alligator, rabbit and frog legs.
