Math tutoring center opens in Augusta

Former meteorologist Jeff Rucker has expanded his math-tutoring services into Richmond County in an effort to reach more students.

Rucker, who for 12 years served as NBC-affiliate WAGT’s chief meteorologist, opened his second Mathnasium Learning Center last month next to HH Gregg in the Augusta Exchange. The national franchise offers individualized math tutoring curriculums for students in 2nd-12th grades.

Rucker and wife Christine opened their first after-school center in 2011 at the Mullins Crossing shopping center in Evans.

Rucker said he decided to open an Augusta location to better serve the community, adding that a growing number of families joining the program live outside Columbia County. About 160 students collectively frequent both centers, he said.

“It needs to be convenient,” Rucker said. “Getting close to Augusta and North Augusta was always a goal.”

The Augusta center opened with a team of four math instructors.
