WJBF blocked on DISH

  • Follow Local Business

Programming on Augusta ABC affiliate WJBF has been blocked for local DISH Network customers.

DISH and the broadcaster’s parent company, Media General, have been in negotiations to reach a retransmission agreement since June.

DISH representatives said in a statement Tuesday that Media General rejected their offer of a short-term contract extension as the broadcasting company awaits a merger with Young Broadcasting, which is expected in the fourth quarter.

DISH is fighting what it calls a “massive price increase” from Media General. Seventeen Southern markets would be affected by the stalemate.

A similar issue between DISH and Raycom Media, Fox affiliate WFXG, was settled Aug. 9 with an undisclosed agreement.

Paid TV

Satellite and cable subscribers should shut down their subscriptions and buy an outdoor antenna. You are actually a "pay per view" TV
subscriber but still get your regular commercial TV. It is hard to understand why you pay for TV programming and have to watch commercials every 5-7 minutes. Sports is out of control on commercials as well and this needs to stop. This is all about greed from networks, TV providers, such as Comcast and dish network. Stop
paying for free TV. Guess what! You can live without cable and satellite TV. Try it, you'll like it! No monthly bill for 100 channels and you only watch 5 of them. Is it really worth it? If you want news, read the paper and get coupons to offset the price of the newspaper. Makes sense to me.

Have Antenna and Satellite/Cable

I say keep your Dish, cable or whatever, but also have an antenna for local stations. If other locals start this blackout that would ensure you always have ABC, NBC, CBS and Fox.
