Dyer Kia of Augusta will open in early October in Evans

Construction nears completion on Dyer Kia of Augusta at Gibbs and Washington roads in Evans. Dyer Kia is set to open Oct. 4.

Hiring for a new Evans Kia dealership is in high gear in preparation for an Oct. 4 opening date.

As construction nears completion on the 23,000-square-foot facility at 4580 Washington Road, most of the initial 25-employee staff for Dyer Kia of Augusta will be hired next week, said the dealership’s general manager, Rob Dyer.

Bowers Automotive Group, based out of Chattanooga, Tenn., will operate the dealership, which includes 225 new cars, a used vehicle lot, and a full service and parts department.

Dyer Kia is the fourth Kia business run by Bowers Automotive, which has nine other import dealerships across the Southeast.

The location at the corner of Washington and Gibbs roads was selected after a market study that showed a majority of the potential customer base lives north of the four-acre site, toward Thurmond Lake.

“We wanted drive-by traffic and we wanted visibility,” Dyer said. “We did a traffic study, and that intersection is unbelievably heavily traveled almost all day long.”

The building has been under construction for about eight months, with most of the work bid out to local builders and contractors, Dyer said.

The energy-efficient design incorporates a reflective roof to deflect sun from the structure and a water reclaim system that will collect rainwater from the sloped roof into barrels.

“Out of 1 inch of rain, we get 21,000 gallons of water free from running in this rain barrel,” Dyer said.

“It’s going to run our car wash free except for the electricity.”

In return, the car wash will be complementary to customers.

Dyer is affiliated with the Dyer family that owns Dick Dyer Toyota and Dick Dyer & Associates Mercedes-Benz and Volvo in Columbia, and Dyer & Dyer Volvo in Atlanta. Dyer ran a Ford dealership in North Carolina for more than 20 years until selling it in 2005.

The Kia dealership will be the second in the metro Augusta market. The other is at 1770 Gordon Highway.
