Edge Salon's David Towles named North Augusta Small Business Person of Year

NORTH AUGUSTA— David Towles, owner of Edge Salon & Spa and Edge Formals, was named 2013 Small Business Person of the Year on Thursday during the Greater North Augusta Chamber of Commerce Business & Community Expo.

He opened the salon and spa in 2008 and added formal wear in 2009. Edge Formals moved into its own space a couple of years later. Both are in Hammond’s Ferry.

Towles also provides pageant consulting and participates in several events and fund-raisers for various causes.

Towles said he felt honored to receive the award.

“It is recognition from my community,” he said. “I’ve been blessed.”

Earlier this year, he received the Business Person of the Year Award from South Carolina Future Business Leaders of America for his work with the FBLA chapter at North Augusta High School.

Towles said he encourages other small business owners to stay determined and “don’t give up”.

“As a small business owner, everything came out of my pocket. I had no financing so I had to produce enough revenue to pay my bills,” he said. “It was difficult at times, but I’m thankful that I’ve been able to do it.”
