Mall General Manager Andrew Wilke said the luxury lifestyle company is projected to open a 2,400-square-foot store on the upper level by late October or early November.
The store will feature collections by fashion designer Michael Kors, who served as a judge on TV show Project Runway. In 1981, Kors launched his line, which now includes men’s and women’s apparel, accessories, footwear and fragrances.
A Michael Kors representative said company policy prohibited her from commenting on the Augusta store until it opens.
The Michael Kors brand has more than 380 stores across the globe. The closest locations to Augusta are in Atlanta and Savannah, Ga.
The new store is under construction next to J.C. Penney and across from Victoria’s Secret. The space was last occupied by Know Style, which has moved to the old Abercrombie & Fitch spot.
“We haven’t had a permanent tenant in there I would say for over a year at least,” Wilke said.
In May, mall management announced that H&M would open a 23,000-square foot, two-story retail store near Barnes & Noble next spring. A Clarks shoe store opened in the mall in April, and Wilke said the mall is 99 percent leased.
“We’re just trying to provided a good mix of different store tenants that our shoppers demand,” he said. “Over the years, tastes change and so do the stores in the mall.”
