Michael Kors store to open in Augusta Mall this fall

  • Follow Local Business

A Michael Kors store is set to open in Augusta Mall this fall.

Mall General Manager Andrew Wilke said the luxury lifestyle company is projected to open a 2,400-square-foot store on the upper level by late October or early November.

The store will feature collections by fashion designer Michael Kors, who served as a judge on TV show Project Runway. In 1981, Kors launched his line, which now includes men’s and women’s apparel, accessories, footwear and fragrances.

A Michael Kors representative said company policy prohibited her from commenting on the Augusta store until it opens.

The Michael Kors brand has more than 380 stores across the globe. The closest locations to Augusta are in Atlanta and Savannah, Ga.

The new store is under construction next to J.C. Penney and across from Victoria’s Secret. The space was last occupied by Know Style, which has moved to the old Abercrombie & Fitch spot.

“We haven’t had a permanent tenant in there I would say for over a year at least,” Wilke said.

In May, mall management announced that H&M would open a 23,000-square foot, two-story retail store near Barnes & Noble next spring. A Clarks shoe store opened in the mall in April, and Wilke said the mall is 99 percent leased.

“We’re just trying to provided a good mix of different store tenants that our shoppers demand,” he said. “Over the years, tastes change and so do the stores in the mall.”

I hope to see this under

I hope to see the article included under 'latest updates', and on the Facebook page..

Michael Kors doesn't have an location in metro Savannah, the city of Savannah, or Chatham County. The Michael Kors located near Savannah is the outlet in Bluffton, SC which is not even apart of metro Savannah..

There's a grand total of five Michael Kors locations in Georgia. The outlet in North Georgia(Dawsonville), and four boutiques(Perimeter, Lenox, North Point, and Mall of Georgia).

The Augusta mall is definitely moving closer towards Perimeter, North Point, and Mall of Georgia in metro Atlanta.

Augusta is really growing this year!!!

Augusta is quickly moving

Augusta is quickly moving past Columbia in terms of retail and is now comparable with Greenville in terms of retail. Haywood Mall and Augusta Mall are now comparable and have been for 5 years, Both of us are getting Cabella's but we are also getting Bass Pro. The only thing Greenville will have that we don't have by the end of 2014 is REI and Trader Joes but i feel like there is a very likely chance that they too will have announced locations in Augusta by then.

Augusta Greenville Retail

I definitely say Augusta and Greenville's retail is top notch and far surpasses its piers of Columbia, Macon, Savannah and Charleston for a city of less than 1,000,000 in the CSA. When they clean up all of Broad like the Artist Row section of Downtown then I can see Urban Outfitters finally making Augusta home within the next 5 years or less.

Shopping

Hopefully Urban Outfitters, Anthropologie, and Trader Joes come downtown. Trader Joes locating somewhere in/around Summerville or the Medical District would be nice too.

Greenville has smaller things like Brooks Brothers, and larger similar to Dave and Busters coming soon.

I think the Augusta mall has now surpass the Haywood Mall in Greenville with the addition of H&M, and Michael Kors(two stores not presently in Greenville).

You know.. when I work in

You know.. when I work in Savannah or Macon and people find out I'm from Augusta, the first thing they want to know about is how do we attract such high end retail... NOT!

You guys can keep up this façade as long as you wish... but rest assured you are just whistling past the graveyard...
