Teleperformance will add 130 jobs to its center on Wylds Road near Augusta Mall to meet the needs of an undisclosed new customer, according to the Augusta Economic Development Authority.
In 2008, the company opened inside a 50,000-square-foot building but left about 8,000 square feet unfinished for future growth.
It added 300 jobs to the center in 2010 but cut 250 of those positions a year later in what Teleperformance officials called a “strategic move designed to better align resources.”
About 300 people are employed at the center, authority director Walter Sprouse said.
“This is 130 paychecks here every Friday that aren’t there now,” he said. “It just helps to stimulate the economy.”
The Augusta site was chosen for the expansion because of its information technology workforce population, Sprouse said.
“Teleperformance is a vital part of the stability of the Augusta economy as they hire people, grow and hire more people,” Mayor Deke Copenhaver said in a statement. “Their location is ideal, the facility is comfortable and they are benefiting from the information
technology workforce in the Augusta area. We welcome these new jobs.”
The company is in the process of applying for a building permit with the city to complete the unfinished area, which is expected to be finished by September, Sprouse said.
Teleperformance provides customer service representatives for other companies, including Microsoft, Dell, Apple, AT&T and Priceline.
The company is based in Paris and has 281 contact centers in 45 countries. Nearly 83,000 employees work for Teleperformance worldwide.
