A temporary hiring center has been set up at the Evans Walmart Superstore, 4469 Washington Road, as the company prepares to hire 95 full-time and part-time associates, according to a news release.

Most of the employees will begin work in September to prepare for the store’s grand opening, which is expected this fall.

A $1.9 million renovation project is underway to turn the former Food Lion in the Village at Furys Ferry shopping center into the area’s first Walmart Neighborhood Market. The shopping center is located at 3845 Evans-to-Locks Road beside the Furys Ferry Road intersection.

As part of Walmart’s Veterans Welcome Home Commitment, a job will be offered to any veteran who has been honorably discharged within 12 months of active duty. The applicant must also meet Walmart’s standard hiring criteria. Veterans can find more information at www.walmartcareerswithamission.com.

Applications can be turned in at the hiring center from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, or online at www.careers.walmart.com.

Free Market

Its called the free market. You can bet that if Walmart or anyone else thought they could make money in South Augusta they would be there. Obviously they don't.

Maybe they haven't completely

Maybe they haven't completely killed off enough niche stores to warrant it. Just be patient South Augusta. I remind you, be careful what you wish for.
