Marketing executive and Augusta native Lee Heffernan has joined forces with local agency Wier/Stewart Advertising.

Heffernan was hired this month as the agency development director at the Augusta firm, which headed the “flipthebirds.com” campaign for the local WifeSaver chain, according to a news release.

Heffernan got her first job in media as the sales promotion manager for Turner Broadcasting and advanced to its senior vice president of marketing and promotions, helping launch the Cartoon Network. Heffernan moved to New York City, where she headed marketing for Lifetime and WE: Women’s Entertainment Television and led Martha Stewart Omnimedia into a multiplatform format as the senior vice president of Integrated Marketing, according to the release.

Before leaving Augusta, Heffernan created her first project, “Kids Against Drugs,” in the mid-1980s. The anti-drug education campaign targeted young children and served as a template for Nancy Reagan’s “Just Say No” campaign, the release says.

Heffernan co-wrote with her mother, Robbie Williams, Gentlemen Only, a book about their experiences as the daughter and wife of an Augusta National Golf Club member.
