William Robert Williams, 41, was arrested by Richmond County authorities Friday after agents from the revenue department’s Alcohol and Tobacco Division went to Williams’ downtown business, Roux’s Catering Service, in mid-March on suspicion that he illegally transported alcohol from North Augusta into Georgia to sell to patrons of his catering service.
Williams told agents that he sold alcohol as part of his catering package, according to the department’s incident report. He said he bought the alcohol in South Carolina because it was less expensive.
Williams was charged with one count of untaxed alcohol possession, which is a misdemeanor, according to jail administrators.
He was released Friday from the Richmond County jail soon after he was booked. His bond was set at $1,200.
