The Abercrombie & Fitch store in Augusta Mall, which has been open about a decade, will close Saturday.

“They’re closing a lot of their stores in the Southeast, particularly,” said Tom Dornfeld, the mall’s interim general manager.

Abercrombie and the mall management made a mutual decision not to renew the store’s lease, Dornfeld said.

Abercrombie will have normal business hours Saturday, closing at 9 p.m., a store manager said.

Attempts to reach Abercrombie’s corporate office Friday were not successful.

The clothing store has been open in the mall for about a decade. Hollister, also owned by the Abercrombie company, will not be affected by the closure, Dornfeld said.

Talks have started with several businesses to bring a tenant in the space, which is near one of the mall’s entrances, Dornfeld said.

Dornfeld said they are focusing on one company.

“It’s pretty exciting, the people we’re talking to,” he said.

An announcement might be made in a couple of months, Dornfeld said.

Willow you do have a point.

Willow you do have a point. The outlet malls in Bluffton have always been a hot spot. It has been many years that I have done any shopping on Hilton Head but the last time I was there I saw a lot of beach-themed shops and golf-themed shops. Not everyone wants a golf t-shirt so maybe the selection wasn't up to par. I would be surprised if Oglethorpe closed due to the fact that they have a good tourist crowd but you never know.

Cookout

Hey County, When is the Cookout coming? Have already had to contact Code Enforcement to have them keep up the property on Walton Way that they finally bought in July. There have been no permits pulled and Code Enforcement has asked them to moth ball the house they purchased at the corner of Crawford and Franklin Lane. Can you give us a date???
