A veteran technology developer has been named to lead audience growth initiatives at TAC Media and The Augusta Chronicle.

Dr. Peggie Koon, the director of strategy, partnership development and management at Morris Communications Co. in Augusta, will be the vice president of audience, a senior-level position at Morris Publishing Group’s metro markets.

Koon replaces Alan English, who left in October to become publisher of the Log Cabin Democrat, a Morris newspaper in Conway, Ark. She will begin Feb. 4.

Koon’s media career began in 2006 at Morris DigitalWorks, where she worked on strategic audience and revenue initiatives. She became deputy chief operating officer of the delivery division for MDW and most recently served as the director of strategy, partnership development and management for Morris Communications and Morris Publishing Group.

“Peggie’s experience on our corporate digital team, combined with her background in leadership and team building, makes her an ideal candidate for this role,” said Derek May, the executive vice president of Morris Publishing Group.

Before joining Morris, Koon spent more than 25 years developing IT systems in the automotive, nuclear defense, aerospace, thermal ceramic and textile industries.

“I placed a priority in getting the right person to lead our audience initiatives and Peggie was at the top of my list,” said Dana Atkins, the president of TAC Media and The Chronicle. “With over six years of contributions to Morris Communications, Peggie has gained an outstanding reputation based on her competency in leveraging digital technology, content development and audience and revenue growth.”

Koon grew up in Augusta and is a member of First Baptist Church of Augusta.

“We are more cognizant than ever that we must meet the needs of the people in our communities,” Koon said. “I’m looking forward to working with the Augusta team as we transition and build new print and digital products and services. We will continue to seek new and exciting ways to provide increased levels of engagement and interaction with our audiences.”

She earned a bachelor of arts in mathematics from Smith College in Northampton, Mass., then completed her master’s degree in industrial and system engineering at Georgia Tech. Koon obtained her doctorate in management information systems from Kennedy Western University in Wyoming.
