Franchise owner Jonathan Schinelli, who has owned three Tin Drum Asia Cafe franchises in Atlanta, said he decided to open an Augusta location because he no longer wanted to commute to Atlanta. His wife attended Medical College of Georgia and is finishing her residency there, so his family now lives in the Augusta area.
He opened the restaurant on Agerton Lane across from Regal Augusta Exchange Stadium 20 movie theater because it is a high-traffic area, he said.
“If you read the statistics, the traffic on this little road is actually incredible,” Schinelli said. “I have several restaurants near movie theaters, so I know the foot traffic that generates. (The space) was also a Chinese restaurant beforehand, so I didn’t have to do as extensive buildouts. A lot of the plumbing and other stuff was done that I needed.”
Schinelli completed some renovations on the 1,300-square-foot space, which seats 24. The restaurant has 10 employees.
He said he might open more franchises in the future.
Tin Drum Asia Cafe specializes in Thai, Chinese, Japanese and Vietnamese cuisine.
“We try to offer a higher level of quality for Asian food without charging too much for that product,” Schinelli said. “We put emphasis on quality instead of quantity.”
The restaurant serves all-natural chicken, organic tofu and fresh vegetables, he said.
Tin Drum Asia Cafe offers delivery and catering, Schinelli said.
