Dancing Dogs Yoga to open Augusta studio

  • Follow Local Business

Dancing Dogs Yoga will open an Augusta location Aug. 11, according to co-owner Annalisa Simmons.

Dancing Dogs has been in Beaufort, S.C., for two years and opened a studio in Bluffton, S.C., in April. Simmons said the company has been looking for a good location in Augusta since November. When the space in Vaughn Square in Martinez opened up, it was a perfect fit, she said, with a room large enough for 50 mats.

“I kept hoping something would open up around here that would be convenient,” she said.

Simmons has been practicing yoga for 11 years. She started out of a desire to get in shape, but it has become much more than that, she said, stretching her spiritually as well.

“It’s a very empowering and dynamic practice,” she said. “It’s part of my daily vocabulary now.”

Dancing Dogs teaches Baptiste Power Vinyasa yoga, which uses heat and powerful exercises to detoxify and strengthen the body. Classes are adaptable to every student, from beginners to experts.

The Aug. 11 grand opening will offer a 6 p.m. class. The normal schedule will include 12 classes a week, an evening and morning class Monday through Friday and one class on Saturdays and Sundays. Rates start at $15 for a single class and $89 for one month of unlimited classes.
