Evans cigar shop moving to Columbia Road

Complaints about cigar smoke have led the owner of Top Shelf Cigars to purchase a new building and plan a move for Aug. 21.

Russell Wilder, owner of Top Shelf Cigars, said his neighbors at the current 4150 Washington Road space have been complaining about cigar smoke seeping out of his shop. Because of this, he was released from his lease and purchased a stand-alone building at 3957 Columbia Road.

“It’s a dual purpose,” he said. “I won’t be wasting money on rent, and we can let the smoke just pour out.”

Top Shelf Cigars sells 465 varieties of 100 brands of cigars. Wilder said that since the new space is slightly smaller, he will eliminate some of his inventory.

The Columbia Road shop has undergone extensive remodeling, adding a pine tongue and groove ceiling and wood paneling on all of the walls.

“It’s going to be the classiest cigar shop for 100 miles,” Wilder said.

Top Shelf Cigars has been in Augusta for more than eight years.
