EZ-Ride of Augusta acquired by Groome Transportation

Groome Transportation, a Richmond Va.-based company, acquired EZ-Ride of Augusta on Sunday.

Groome provides transportation between Hartsfield- Jackson Atlanta International Airport and Augusta. Groome’s regional director, Kristie Holcombe, said that despite the presence of Augusta Regional Airport there is still high demand for airport shuttles.

Groome increased EZ-Ride’s schedule of six trips on weekdays and five trips on the weekends to 15 daily trips, seven days a week. The first trip leaves Augusta at 2:15 a.m. and the last leaves Atlanta at 12:15 a.m. Groome also decreased fares from $55 to $49, one way.

“We know the Augusta airport is a really great airport, and that was just part of the territory,” she said. “We expect to increase even more.”

Holcombe said the company bought EZ-Ride to expand into the Augusta market. Groome also has offices in Richmond, Va.; Chattanooga, Tenn.; Atlanta; Columbus, Ga.; Macon, Ga.; Athens, Ga.; and Auburn, Ala.

The company is hiring to accommodate the expanded schedule, and will hire more in the future as the need for more trips is seen. Holcombe said the company is accepting applications for drivers in its offices at 4389 West Maysfield Drive.

Need to think of offering rides to Charlotte. I always fly out of Charlotte. Cheaper than Atlanta and Augusta.

Oddly enough, last fall I

Oddly enough, last fall I flew to the US Virgin Islands. Booked my flight out of Augusta (but drove to Charlotte due to "crew availability" issues that would've caused me to be late from AGS) to Charlotte, then on to the USVI. I priced flying directly from Charlotte and just driving up there the night before, but adding that AGS-->CLT flight made my ticket $250 LESS than if I had flown straight from Charlotte...and the CLT to USVI flight was the exact same one in either scenario. Ended up getting $250 back from US Airways anyway because I had to drive since their 'unavailable' crew would've made me an hour late for the only USVI flight that day.

Although I do not know of

Although I do not know of price differences between ATL, AGS and CLT, I too would like to see a shuttle to Charlotte. The demand may be less but I know a great many people that like to avoid the mess ATL can be.
