Construction of the Columbia County restaurant is to begin by June, franchise owner Preston Moss said.
“We should start construction in two weeks and be operational by the first or middle of September,” said Moss, who works for Blanchard and Calhoun Insurance.
Moss chose to build the restaurant at the corner of Jimmie Dyess Parkway and Belair Frontage Road, close to Interstate 20.
The popular burger restaurant specializes in steakburgers and hand-dipped milkshakes.
The menu also includes chili, burger melts, sandwiches, salads and desserts.
The 3,500-square-foot restaurant will remain open 24 hours, seven days a week and will serve breakfast.
It will have a drive-through window and employ about 100 people, Moss said.
The management team has already been hired and is in training, he added.
There are nearly 500 Steak ’n Shake restaurants operating in 22 states across the country.
