Hilton to build extended-stay hotel in Augusta

  • Follow Local Business

Hilton is building a Home 2 Suites extended-stay hotel on Walton Way Extension behind Savannah River Banking Co.

The hotel will cover 60,000 square feet, according to Jeff Castleberry, the director of acquisitions and development for a management company called The Generation Cos.

Construction should begin within the next 30 days and take about one year to complete.

Castleberry said the Augusta area is a prime location for an extended-stay hotel, because many customers are from the medical, military, business and construction sectors.

“Our demand comes from many places, from military to people opening up and training for a new retail store,” he said. “We did our homework, and we feel like Augusta continues to grow.”

The hotel is expected to have 123 rooms.

Hilton has more than 60 Home 2 Suites across the country.

And I notice the ol' jail on

And I notice the ol' jail on 9th street still stands. Maybe that could be retrofitted into the fabled Hyatt bait-n-switch Hotel that never were.

So these type places are really not for tourists, but for those who have to stay in motels for work and other reasons for extended periods?

The chronicle is late as

The chronicle is late as usual in terms of reporting the construction projects in Richmond County.. They haven't even mentioned the other new hotel going up in the Augusta Exchange area(124 room Residence Inn by Marriott at 1110 Marks Church rd)..

The Augusta Exchange area of West Augusta continues to grow fast, and create it's own separate identity.. Tutti Frutti expansion, Ulta, new construction behind Buffalo Wild Wings, 7k sq. ft. commercial center at 3670 Wheeler rd, Residence Inn by Marriott, Home2Suites by Hilton hotel, Mcdonalds at 3646 Wheeler rd, etc.. If additional hotels, residential, and office towers over 6 stories are built in the future.. The area can become the first 'edge' city in the metro over the next decade..

According to the developer the Hyatt Place downtown will start construction in the future..
